Description:

Overview: Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering project within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for major equipment rebuilds involving the layout of scope of work required, supervision of personnel and final documentation of work performed.
  • Develop and monitor equipment functions.
  • Design for new installations and organize install upon design approval. Research and develop new technologies to enhance and preserve equipment and improve efficiency.
  • Reviews and establishes key components as inventory items.
  • Identifies outside sources for specialized mechanical needs and labor if needed.
  • Plans and implements engineering program, including defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements, per customer requirements. Review new business opportunities and participate in APQP process.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project.
  • Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.
  • Track and establish rebuild cycles for equipment.
  • Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
  • Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.
  • Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages.
  • Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Directs integration of technical activities and products.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.
  • Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management.
  • Identify and develop key personnel for rebuilding equipment. Train others as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job may have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering. 6-10 years related experience preferred. Demonstrated the ability to perform Upsetter Machine Rebuilds and Electrical Maintenance is preferred.

Key Competencies

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to effectively report relevant data and job specific information as needed
  • Ability to provide detailed descriptions through written and verbal communication work and machine conditions and status
  • Ability work independently and within a team with supervision as required.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Design software; Project Management software and Spreadsheet software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • City of Cleveland Electrical Class II license a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient with CAD
  • SolidWorks experience a plus (load and stress analysis capabilities in software)
  • High degree of data management and organization skills

Other Qualifications:

  • Heavy equipment rebuild experience required.
  • Demonstrated successful project management leadership from start to completion.

Physical Demands:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
  • Use carts, dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed
  • Must be able to regularly lift and or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30 ft or more
  • Navigate narrow walkways, confined spaces and overhead mezzanines
  • Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery
  • Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in work spaces
  • Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
  • Comfortable working in confined work environments

Work Environment:

The Equipment Rebuild & Controls Engineering Manager interacts with historic machinery throughout the facility which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. The Equipment Rebuild & Controls Engineering Manager will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkway, active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
