What is presentation design?

Presentation design is the process of creating visually engaging and effective slides or visuals for presentations, typically using software like PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides. Presentation designers combine graphic design skills with storytelling techniques to convey information clearly and memorably. Their work involves selecting appropriate layouts, typography, colors, and imagery to support the presenter's message and engage the audience. Presentation design is used in business meetings, conferences, educational settings, and marketing pitches to help communicate ideas more effectively.

What is the difference between Presentation Design vs Graphic Designer?

AspectPresentation DesignGraphic Designer
CredentialsTypically requires skills in PowerPoint, Keynote, or similar tools; often no formal certification neededUsually holds a degree or certification in graphic design or related fields
Work EnvironmentPrimarily creates visual content for slides, often in corporate or educational settingsDesigns visual content for print, digital media, branding, and advertising
Industry UsageCommonly used in corporate presentations, conferences, and training sessionsUsed across advertising, publishing, branding, and digital media industries

Presentation Design focuses on creating visually engaging slide decks for presentations, emphasizing clarity and visual storytelling. Graphic Designers have a broader scope, designing various visual materials for multiple media. While both roles require strong design skills, Presentation Designers specialize in slide-based content tailored for presentations, whereas Graphic Designers work on diverse visual projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a presentation designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Presentation Designer, you need a strong grasp of visual storytelling, graphic design principles, and proficiency in software like PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite, often supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Expertise in tools such as PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, and Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is typically expected. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help you interpret client needs and present information engagingly. These skills are essential for creating clear, visually compelling presentations that effectively communicate messages and engage audiences.

What are some common challenges faced by presentation designers when working with non-design stakeholders?

Presentation designers often collaborate with team members who may not have a design background, which can present challenges in communicating the value of visual hierarchy, branding consistency, and effective storytelling. It's common to encounter requests for last-minute changes or to balance multiple rounds of feedback from various stakeholders. Establishing clear communication, setting expectations early, and providing rationale for design decisions can help foster smoother collaboration and ensure that the final presentation effectively meets both business objectives and audience engagement goals.

Temporary
Salary:
$45-50 Hourly
Start Date:

We are looking for a Presentation Designer who specializes in turning complex concepts into powerful visual narratives. In this role, you won't just build slides-you will act as a strategic creative partner, shaping how our biggest ideas and keynotes are communicated.
You will work closely with executive stakeholders, creative directors, event producers, and cross-functional leaders to transform raw content, event strategies, and business goals into high-impact visual stories. The ideal candidate thrives under high-visibility pressure, possesses impeccable visual judgment, and takes end-to-end ownership from narrative framing to pixel-perfect delivery.
Responsibilities

  • Design, polish, and deliver executive-ready decks for high-stakes keynotes, leadership summits, and company-wide events.
  • Lead presentation development from initial concepting and narrative arc creation through final delivery under tight event timelines.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to shape messaging strategy, slide cadence, and presenter flow.
  • Build and maintain scalable presentation systems, master templates, custom visual assets, and design guidelines to uphold brand excellence across the organization.

Requirements
  • 6+ years in presentation design, visual communications, or graphic design, with a heavy focus on executive-level deliverables and corporate keynotes.

  • Demonstrated ability to structure unorganized information into a cohesive, persuasive story arc.
  • Proven track record of directly advising and guiding senior leadership through the design and storytelling process.
  • Ability to juggle multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
  • Strong understanding of brand guidelines, with experience building reusable systems and scalable design assets.
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience designing for large-scale corporate events, major tech keynotes, or investor presentations.
  • Proficiency with supporting design tools such as Figma, Keynote, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects).
  • Background in technology, corporate strategy, or high-growth environments.
  • Strong narrative framing skills with a background in creative direction or message strategy.
  • A portfolio showcasing executive presentation design, storytelling frameworks, data visualization, and refined corporate design systems is required for consideration.

Compensation Range: $45 -50/hr DOE
