Presentation Coaching information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a presentation coach?

To thrive as a Presentation Coach, you need expertise in public speaking, communication strategies, and a background in education, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with presentation software like PowerPoint, video recording tools, and sometimes certifications in coaching or training are typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, constructive feedback abilities, and active listening set top coaches apart. These competencies enable coaches to effectively guide clients toward clear, confident, and impactful presentations.

What are some common challenges faced by presentation coaches when working with clients, and how are they typically addressed?

Presentation coaches often encounter clients who struggle with public speaking anxiety, lack of confidence, or difficulty organizing their content effectively. Addressing these challenges usually involves a combination of personalized feedback, practical exercises, and building rapport to create a supportive environment. Coaches may also use video recordings, role-playing, and tailored frameworks to help clients refine their delivery and messaging. Collaboration with clients is key, as coaches must adapt their approach to suit individual learning styles and objectives.

Working at Target means the opportunity to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. Caring for our communities is woven into who we are, and we invest in the places we collectively live, work and play. We prioritize relationships, fuel and develop talent by creating growth opportunities, and succeed as one Target team. At our core, our purpose is ingrained in who we are, what we value, and how we work. It's how we care, grow, and win together.
A role with Space, Planning and Transitions ("SPT") means you're on a mission to create better in-store experiences for our Store Team Members and guests. We are responsible for ensuring the right item has the right amount of space in the right location in the right store at the right time. We do this by first leveraging analytics and partnership with our Merchandising and Store Operations teams to create a transition plan to determine how much and when change is needed to deliver assortment and presentation newness in our stores. Then, we initiate each transition by analyzing and allocating the appropriate amount of space for every business category for every store (often referred to as "adjacency"). Finally, we complete the transition by building a presentation (often referred to as "POG") and creating a location for our assortment within each store using additional analysis, further partnership with our Visual Merchandising and Merchant cross-functional partners and a set of presentation objectives.
As a Senior Manager in SPT you'll take the lead as the primary SPT partner for your Division(s), working closely with Merchandising Divisionals and Directors, Planning Divisionals, Store Operations, Marketing and Visual Merchandising partners. You will leverage guest, financial and operational data and analytics as well as your partner inputs to create the Division(s) transition labor hour plan as well as the space allocation and overall presentation objectives. You will also lead a global business unit of SPT business partners and specialists who will own the execution of each of the individual transition projects. These activities include developing timing and actions, leading cross-functional teams (CFT), and holding others accountable to key deadlines and quality expectations. Lastly, you will be responsible for hiring, training and onboarding, coaching and development and workload management for the SPT team.
Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.
About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of experience in retail, specifically, Space & Presentation, Buying or Planning/Inventory
  • Strong team leadership and ability to coach and develop a team
  • Strong planning, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, and relate well to others
  • Ability to demonstrate courage, think critically, and drive for results
  • Prior leadership experience preferred
