What is a presale consultant?

Presale Consultants are professionals who support a company's sales process by providing technical expertise and solutions to potential clients before a sale is finalized. They work closely with sales teams to understand customer needs, create tailored presentations or demonstrations, and address technical questions. Their goal is to ensure that clients have a clear understanding of how a product or service will meet their requirements, increasing the likelihood of a successful sale. Presale Consultants often bridge the gap between technical teams and customers, helping to translate complex information into practical solutions.

How does a presale consultant typically collaborate with sales and technical teams during the sales process?

As a Presale Consultant, you'll act as a vital bridge between the sales and technical teams. Your responsibilities often include working with sales representatives to understand client needs, then collaborating with technical staff to design tailored solutions and demonstrations. This role requires clear communication and coordination to ensure proposed solutions align with both client requirements and your company's capabilities. Regular meetings, joint presentations, and shared documentation are common practices to facilitate this collaboration and drive successful sales outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a presale consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Presale Consultant, you need a solid understanding of the product or solution, strong analytical abilities, and a background in sales or technical consulting—often backed by a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM systems, presentation tools, and technical documentation platforms is typical, and industry certifications can be advantageous. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills set outstanding candidates apart in engaging both clients and internal teams. These competencies are crucial for effectively translating customer needs into tailored solutions, driving successful sales outcomes, and fostering long-term client relationships.

Job description

You will become a part of Trinetix Presale Team, working together with Sales and Delivery to prepare compelling and highly competitive proposals for our potential clients.

As a Presale Consultant you will engage in early-stage conversations with our potential clients to uncover business needs, shape the solution vision and product requirements, and — working alongside the Trinetix architects, technology and delivery experts who own the technical design — help turn them into detailed proposals.

You will take part in building AI-augmented Presale Function together with Trinetix presale and technology experts.

Your key responsibility will be understanding the client’s business needs — acting as the business and product expert in the room — and making sure they are properly reflected in the proposed solution.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in the IT sector
  • Strong background as a senior business analyst, product manager, or technical business consultant, with experience across various business domains
  • Proven consulting experience, ideally in client-facing roles or engagements; facilitating client workshops discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, ability to drive the client through ideation process
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in business analysis and product management (requirements elicitation, solution vision, backlog and user stories) as the core of the role, accompanied by enough working knowledge of solution architecture, UX/UI design, and associated software engineering practices to collaborate effectively with architects and engineers — this is a business- and product-focused role, not an architect role, and you will partner with our solution architects rather than own the technical design yourself
  • Experience working with the architects/engineering teams converting client’s business need into technical solution proposal
  • Understanding presales specifics (time limitations and ambiguity)
  • Experience both with non-formal highly interactive presales and formal RFP responses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders from the USA and/or Europe

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience using AI tools within the presales cycle
  • Healthcare and Telecom domains would be a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the presale process and the key client’s proxy in terms of business requirements
  • Together with Sales engage with the potential clients at early stage of the presale process to clarify the business needs, priorities and requirements
  • Translate client’s business needs into solution vision, backlog and other requirements documents
  • Work together with the architects and UX experts to produce architecture vision, prototypes and POCs
  • Facilitate estimation sessions from the perspective of communicating the requirements and assumptions to the engineering team, documenting the assumptions and converting them into accurate effort estimations
  • Contribute to the development of presale documents (proposals, presentations, financial models) balancing hands-on work and delegation to the team members
  • Participate in the proposal presentation meetings, being main presenter for the business needs/solution parts of the proposal
  • Balance the (potentially contradicting) interests of internal stakeholders (primarily Sales and Delivery) to ensure competitive proposals without risky over-commitments
  • Participate in the Presale Function transformation initiatives (development of templates and practices, etc)
