Job description

Job Summary
This role supports the planning and execution of projects during the preconstruction phase, contributing to accurate estimating, competitive subcontractor procurement, and effective project setup. This role collaborates with the Preconstruction Manager, development, and operations teams to develop project budgets, define scopes of work, and support front-end project planning efforts. This role plays a key role in ensuring project feasibility, cost certainty, and a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction by coordinating bid efforts, analyzing trade coverage, and supporting procurement and early project logistics. Internally, this role will be referred to as a "Preconstruction Engineer."

These skills will be used to:
  • Support the development of accurate and complete project estimates across all phases of preconstruction.
  • Perform and/or coordinate quantity takeoffs with internal teams and shared services partners.
  • Collaborate with the Preconstruction Manager and Shared Services to develop conceptual, schematic, and GMP-level estimates.
  • Assist in preparing and assembling Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposals and supporting documentation.
  • Facilitate alignment between internal cost structures (CSI/MasterFormat) and Fischer Group cost categories.
  • Lead development of scopes of work for subcontractor bidding, with a focus on multifamily construction.
  • Support subcontractor outreach, prequalification, and bid management using platforms such as Autodesk TradeTapp.
  • Lead bid leveling, scope comparisons, and analysis to ensure complete and competitive trade coverage.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related fields.
  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience in construction estimating, procurement, project engineering, or project management.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of industry standard cost structuring (CSI/Masterformat, Uniformat).
  • Experience with estimating software and bid management platforms (TradeTapp, BuildingConnected, Autodesk Forma Estimate or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Commercial or multifamily construction experience.

Physical demands and work environment:
  • Must have use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through use of the telephone and face-to-face contact.
  • Must have the capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment such as but not limited to the computer, calculator, and copier.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time with low periods of reaching and standing.
