What is precision welding?

A Precision Welding job involves performing highly accurate and specialized welding tasks, often on intricate or high-strength components. Precision welders work with various metals and advanced techniques, such as TIG or laser welding, to ensure strong and defect-free joints. They are commonly employed in industries like aerospace, automotive, and medical manufacturing, where strict tolerances and quality are essential. This role requires steady hands, attention to detail, and expertise in reading blueprints and technical specifications.

What is a precision welder?

A precision welder is a skilled tradesperson who performs detailed welding tasks requiring high accuracy and fine control, often working with delicate or complex components. They typically use specialized tools and techniques, such as TIG welding, and may need certifications to ensure quality standards are met.

What does a precision welder do?

A typical day in Precision Welding involves preparing materials and equipment, interpreting detailed technical blueprints or schematics, and executing welds to exacting specifications using advanced techniques like TIG or laser welding. You may also inspect finished components for flaws, perform routine maintenance on welding equipment, and document your work according to industry quality standards. Precision welders often collaborate closely with engineers, machinists, and quality control teams to ensure all assembly and safety requirements are met. The workflow can be fast-paced and requires constant attention to detail to maintain the highest levels of product quality and workplace safety.

What skills and qualifications are needed for precision welding?

To excel in Precision Welding, a strong background in blueprint reading, metallurgy, and experience with various welding techniques like TIG, MIG, and laser welding is typically required, often supported by a technical diploma or welding certification. Proficiency with specialized welding equipment, non-destructive testing tools, and adherence to industry safety standards such as AWS or ASME codes is essential. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a team set top candidates apart. These competencies ensure precision welders can consistently produce high-quality, defect-free work for demanding industries such as aerospace, automotive, or medical device manufacturing.

Job description

Job Title : TIG Welder
Location: El Segundo, CA
Employment Type: [Full-time / Contract / Contract-to-Hire]

NOTE: Client is seeking for the candidates with aerospace, defense, nuclear energy and aviation inustry background

About the Role

We’re hiring a precision welder to support the build of next-generation portable nuclear microreactors. This is not production-line work—this is high-integrity fabrication where weld quality directly impacts system performance and safety. You’ll work on complex assemblies that demand tight tolerances, repeatability, and zero-defect execution across aerospace-grade materials.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, and other high-performance alloys
  • Execute welds in accordance with AWS D17.1 and internal nuclear/aerospace standards
  • Fabricate and weld thin-wall tubing, pressure vessels, and structural components
  • Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T requirements
  • Set up welding equipment, tooling, and fixtures for precision work
  • Perform in-process inspections and support NDT (dye penetrant, X-ray, etc.)
  • Maintain full traceability and documentation for all welds and materials
  • Partner with engineering and quality to troubleshoot and improve weld processes

What You Bring

  • 3–5+ years of TIG welding experience in aerospace, defense, nuclear, or high-spec manufacturing
  • Proven experience with thin-wall and high-precision welds
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and weld callouts
  • Familiarity with AWS D17.1, AS9100, or equivalent quality systems
  • Ability to pass weld certification tests
  • Detail-obsessed mindset—your work holds up under inspection

Nice to Have

  • Experience with exotic alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, titanium)
  • Background in pressure systems, vacuum systems, or high-temperature applications
  • Prior exposure to nuclear or energy systems
  • Cleanroom or controlled-environment welding experience
