Summary
Under the clinical supervision of a licensed psychologist, who is qualified to provide clinical supervision in all activities assigned to the pre-doctoral intern as part of their training experience, the Psychology Intern evaluates patients for mental, emotional or behavioral disorders. May conduct psychological testing as appropriate or deemed necessary. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment for the patient. Uses multiple treatment modalities to treat patient illness or distress; cannot prescribe medication. Serves as a behavioral health subject matter consultant to primary care and other behavioral health team members.
Job Description
Under appropriate supervision, the intern formulates case conceptualization, diagnostic impressions, and treatment recommendations of mental, emotional or behavioral issues/disorders using information obtained from observations, interviews, records, questionnaires, psychological assessments, and reference materials. Comprehensive psychological reports are written using information from the patient's medical history, clinical interview, test results, and self-report measures. Meets documentation standards of the enterprise. Results/impressions are discussed with supervising psychologist who attests the final report. Provides evaluation results to patient and family with a discussion of recommendation. Evaluation results to patient, family, and other health care team members with a discussion
Develops and implements individual, couples, family or group treatment plans using a variety of psychotherapy methods. Interacts with patients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals and planning actions to achieve personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment. Assesses patients' progress. Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling or treatments and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses based on the principles and procedures of psychology and related disciplines; modifies treatment plans and diagnoses as necessary.
Performs all essential functions and competencies under the clinical supervision and guidance of a licensed psychologist to provide supervision and documents that supervision in a manner consistent with the organization, while working toward while working towards completion of the doctoral degree at their graduate educational institution.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an accredited doctoral program in clinical, counseling, or educational psychology leading to the award of the Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D degree. Completion of all graduate coursework and dissertation defended and IRB approval obtained prior to starting the internship. Permission from educational program's Director of Clinical Training (DCT) to begin internship.
A minimum of 400 intervention hours and 50 assessment hours prior to beginning internship year.
Licensure not required.
