Job description

Job Summary:

The Pre-Construction Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, estimating, and coordination of construction projects before work begins. This role works closely with project managers, estimators, superintendents, and clients to ensure projects are accurately planned, organized, and prepared for successful execution. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proficient in Microsoft Excel, knowledgeable in construction processes, and an excellent communicator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Assist in preparing project estimates, budgets, and cost analyses

·         Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, and track spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.

·         Review plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents for completeness and accuracy.

·         Coordinate with project managers, estimators, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients during the pre-construction phase.

·         Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.

·         Prepare bid packages and assist with bid submissions.

·         Perform quantity takeoffs and material calculations.

·         Track project documents, revisions, RFIs, and submittals.

·         Participate in project handoff meetings and ensure all pre-construction documentation is complete.

·         Identify potential project risks and communicate concerns to management.

·         Maintain organized electronic and paper project files.

·         Support continuous improvement of pre-construction processes and documentation.

Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent construction experience).

·         Minimum of 5 years of construction, estimating, project engineering, or pre-construction experience preferred.

·         Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, plans, and specifications.

·         Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting/filtering, pivot tables, and data analysis.

·         Experience with estimating takeoff software (Onscreen, Bluebeam, ProCore)

·         Commercial Construction Field Experience

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Strong organizational and time-management abilities with the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

·         High attention to detail and accuracy.

·         Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).

The Estimating Manager role is primarily office-based but may involve occasional site visits. Physical demands may include:

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
  2. Occasional standing, walking, or climbing during site evaluations or meetings
  3. Visual acuity to review blueprints, technical drawings, and detailed documents
  4. Manual dexterity for using a computer, calculator, and office equipment
  5. Ability to lift and carry materials such as plans, binders, or small equipment (up to 25 pounds)
  6. Ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, or bid walkthroughs as required
