Job description

In communion with the Pastor and parish staff, the Coordinator of Youth Ministry leads a vibrant, ministry that forms middle school & high school, rooted in the Eucharist, faith formation, service, and community. The role also plans communications to invite, inform, and inspire parishioners to active participation in parish life.

• Vision & Planning: Design and implement a comprehensive, youth ministry (MS/HS) aligned with the parish mission "To know Christ Jesus and fulfill His Great Commission."
• Weekly Gatherings: Plan and host engaging weekly sessions (catechesis, small groups, prayer, service, fellowship).
• Retreats & Events: Coordinate at least one annual retreat (ENG/ESP) plus seasonal missions, service days, and deanery/diocesan events (e.g., youth rallies, NCYC as appropriate).
• Leadership Development: Recruit, train, and mentor a core team of adult and peer leaders; provide ongoing formation and safe-environment compliance.
• Family & Sacramental Integration: Collaborate with Faith Formation to provide Confirmation prep for teenagers; engage parents/guardians through parent nights, and family faith opportunities.
• Pastoral Care & Outreach: Maintain a welcoming presence; accompany teens and families; conduct outreach to under-engaged youth (school, sports, neighborhood).
• Establish a weekly presence at the local High School during the year.
• Liturgy & Service: Integrate youth into liturgical ministries (lectors, music, hospitality) and organize service/mission opportunities tied to Catholic social teaching.
• Administration: Schedule, budget, registrations, permission forms, transportation, vendor coordination, and incident reporting in line with parish/diocesan policies.
Social Media & Communications
  • Strategy & Calendar: Develop a content calendar (web, email, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp/GroupMe as appropriate) that promotes parish liturgies, ministries, and events.
  • E-News & Bulletins: Assist Pastor with monthly e-newsletters, parish-wide announcements, and event promotions; provide timely website updates.
  • Analytics & Growth: Track reach/engagement; recommend improvements; ensure compliance with Safe Environment and intellectual property policies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing who supports and lives the teachings of the Church.
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Education, Communications, or related field; equivalent ministry experience considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 2+ years' experience in parish/diocesan youth ministry or Catholic school campus ministry.
  • Experience managing social media for an organization (content creation, scheduling, analytics).
  • Proficiency with standard office tools and basic design/video apps (e.g., Canvas), and parish platforms (Flocknote, website CMS).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally for ministry activities.

Compliance & Safe Environment
  • Must complete and maintain Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment training and background check prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Ensures all volunteers comply with Safe Environment policies, models best practices for digital communications with minors.
  • Follows all parish/diocesan policies for transportation, off-site events, permission forms, photo/video releases, and incident reporting.

Schedule & Working Conditions
  • Full-time/Part-time with regular evening/weekend hours (weekly youth night, Sunday Mass presence, retreats, special events).
  • Some lifting/physical setup for events; ability to move between buildings and outdoor activities.
  • Occasional overnight retreats, conferences, and diocesan gatherings.
