Job description

Job Title

Reports to the Director Psychiatric Medicine and Addiction Medicine or designee and provides clinic support, and telephonic nursing support for the Psychiatric Outpatient Services. The Nurse functions with autonomy in clinical nursing practice within the guidelines established by the Iowa Board of Nursing and Broadlawns Medical Center. The Behavioral Health Clinic Nurse is responsible for assisting physicians and other healthcare providers to provide timely patient visits, communications, and the processing of outpatient medication refill requests. The Clinic Nurse will assist providers in communicating laboratory and other test results to patients. The Nurse provides case management and education sessions in the Partial Hospital programs, or direct care to patients in the Injection clinic. The Nurse documents and maintains records in accordance with standards within the scope of nursing practice.

  • Practices patient education interventions within the Broadlawns Medical Center sanctioned parameters including goals, methodologies and adult-learning concepts and techniques.
  • Maintains skills, knowledge and abilities concerning current innovations in diagnostic testing and pharmacology.
  • Demonstrates awareness and application of all policies and procedures.
  • Completes all annual mandatory education training within defined time frame (safety training, corporate compliance, performance appraisals, confidentiality, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Iowa RN license.
  • Demonstrates clear and effective communication skills.
  • General knowledge skills in the use of computers including basic computer applications.
  • Ability to develop computer skills on the CMS and Cerner system(s).
