Job description

Purpose Brands, the parent company of Orangetheory, Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City and The Bar Method, is seeking a Learning and Development Manager to join its team within The Bar Method. This is a great position for someone who is looking to expand their career, and join a company with a fun, fast-paced and inspirational culture.
As a Manager, Learning and Development, you will directly impact the success of the enterprise by influencing the performance and profitability of each Bar Method Franchisee through the design, delivery and facilitation of learning experiences. Successful candidates will leverage their instructional design, project management skills, communication and people skills to assess current state learning programs and methodologies, identify areas of opportunity, gather feedback and develop solutions which they will then build, test, implement and scale across the franchise network in partnership with the Bar Method corporate team.
This role reports to the Vice President of Operations for The Bar Method.


Purpose/Impact: (Duties & Essential Functions)

Instructional Design + Training Facilitation - 60%

  • Partner with the Sr. Director of Field Support, Technique and Brand Operations team to develop and implement training assets to ensure the development of studio owners and team.
  • Apply research-based instructional design theories, practices and methodology to develop high performance, innovative training assets and experiences appropriate for studio audiences.
  • Gather firsthand feedback from internal and external resources on all training events, tools and resources, and use feedback gathered appropriately to continuously improve and innovate training design and delivery.
  • Establishes a measurement process and plan to continuously improve and innovate training design and delivery.
  • Design, build, schedule, resource and facilitate training webinars and events for both franchise and corporate audiences; events could occasionally occur in-studio.
  • Acquire and maintain a working level of knowledge on a day in the life of a Bar Method studio
  • Partner with subject matter experts across the organization to align training objectives and develop content to support organizational priorities and project goals
  • Partner cross departmentally to develop supporting material / media (audio, video, simulations, role play, games)

Communication - 30%

  • Strategy Development: Create, maintain, and execute comprehensive content strategies aligned with company objectives to enhance brand presence
  • Content Creation: Develop a framework the Bar Method team can use to create informative and engaging content across multiple channels, focusing on meeting the needs of our audience and driving engagement.
  • Provides guidance and direction to help structure content within our Franchisee-facing tools - Resource Center, Academy, and Workvivo, ensuring it is easy to navigate and accessible to users.
  • Partners with the Brand Operations Manager to create a communications calendar to support all Franchisee communications, ensuring consistent, timely, and transparent messaging across the system.
  • Build and maintain trust with Franchisees by crafting communications that are clear and aligned with both brand standards and Franchisee needs.
  • Helps coach and mentor other team members on communication framework to use and follow
  • Owns the franchisee-facing communication channels and continuously optimizes for clarity and engagement.

Strategy and Leadership - 5%

  • Design, develop, communicate and implement processes to enable the efficient development and delivery of training for Bar Method
  • Assist Bar Method leadership with the development of the annual training plan, budget and calendar of events to support the strategic plan and organizational objectives
  • Manage assigned training project and events to align with planned budget and priorities
  • Present regular status updates to leadership, monthly team updates, and as needed ad hoc updates for all projects underway

  • Strong strategic and tactical communication planning and execution skills
  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty; demonstrated ability to create structure and prioritize work effectively
