Job description

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineer I - V - CNS (Probabilistic Risk Assessment) located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes August 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled. 

Position Summary

Note:  Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.  Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document. 

The Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer develops, maintains, and applies nuclear power plant PRA models to support safe, reliable, and cost-effectiver operation of Cooper Nuclear Station.

Education, Training and Experience

Requierd: Bachelors of Scicence degree in Engineering dicsicipline (Mechanical, Nuclear or Electrical Engineering preferred). Degree must be ABET Accredited. 

Preferred training and experience:

  • Three or more years prior experience in the nuclear power industry (PRA, DesignEngineering, System Engineering, or Operations preferred)
  • Thermal-Hydraulic and/or radiological dose analysis experience
  • Proficient in the use of EXCEL and/or ACCESS database tools for analyzing data

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Evaluate plant design and licensing changes to determine their impact on plant risk.


Implement PRA modeling and techniques to meet industry and regulatory standards foroptimization of programs at CNS.


Develop, maintain, and document PRA computer-based models to efficiently and accuratelyevaluate risk associated with operation and maintenance of the plant.


Provide quantitative and qualitative nuclear risk assessments to support 10CFR50.65, MitigatingSystems Performance Index (MSPI), NRC reactor oversight process, and risk informed licensingactions.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade and Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: 

Engineer Level I: Exempt Pay Grade 12: $6,837 - $8,636 per month

Engineer Level II: Exempt Pay Grade 13: $7,668 - $9,686 per month

Engineer Level III: Exempt Pay Grade 14: $8,720 - $11,231 per month

Engineer Level IV: Exempt Pay Grade 15: $10,006 - $12,887 per month

Engineer Level V: Exempt Pay Grade 16: $11,480 - $14,785 per month

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
