Description
Summary:
Under minimal supervision but under full coordination with the Dean and Research Director, College of Agriculture, Life and Natural Sciences (CALNS), undertakes functions that enhance relationships with agricultural communities and agribusinesses, producers. Identifies opportunities and collaborations in research and educational outreach. Promotes and publicizes instructional and research capabilities of mutual interest to governmental and non-profits and private industries and businesses. Participates with faculty in soliciting and developing extramural grant solicitation and project development. Further, provides direction to optimal utilization of the CALNS physical resources (e.g., the Research Station, specialized laboratories, small farm programs, etc.). Strengthens and expands relationships with public entities such as governmental institutions in the vicinity that result is CALNS program development.
This position requires: a) direct interaction with public, producer and state organizations in agriculture forestry, natural resources and emerging technologies in life sciences, ability to work research investigators, instructors, funding agencies, and with AAMU's University Grants and Contracts, and Comptroller's office; exceptional ability to work and support faculty
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Meets producer groups, state government agencies, area and small farmers' organizations to identify their needs and collaborative research opportunities.
• Develops and utilizes research and educational specializations of CALNS faculty and based on such attributes identifies supportive opportunities.
• Becomes familiar with grant opportunities from state and national sources and private nonprofits, charitable organizations in finding grant opportunities. (State of Alabama awards-AALGA, natural resources soils forestry and wildlife research support) and national resources such as NSF, NASA, USDA, USDA-NIFA, USDoL, US DOE and DOEd and USDOD, and non-profit organizations.
• Collaborates with academic departments and Chairs in identifying grant opportunities for faculty in developing unique spheres of excellence in research and teaching.
• Maintains strong working relationship with AAMU OSP/Grants & Contracts personnel, AAMU Comptroller's office in the budgeting and preparation of grant proposals; research agency and AAMU requirements and prepares comprehensive budget justifications for investigators.
• Assists faculty and their proposal development processes in development grant documents and annual reports and budgets to enhance extramural support posture of the College.
• Regularly accesses funding agency announcements, specialized databases and systems for tracking grant opportunities investigator profiles.

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
• Master's degree in public relations, public administration, or a related field;
• Graduate-level training or professional experience in professional industry (e.g. agriculture, sustainability, public health, and community-based research);
• Demonstrated experience supporting research initiatives, educational outreach, and community engagement within academic, governmental, or nonprofit environments;
• Experience collaborating with faculty, researchers, governmental agencies, producers, and community organizations to support program development and external partnerships;
• Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data using platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, Qualtrics, Tableau, or comparable systems.
