Automotive Paint Technician – Emergency Vehicles

Job Description
This role focuses on preparing, painting, and finishing emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and specialty units to achieve a high-quality, durable, and visually appealing finish. You will handle all stages of the paint process, from surface preparation to final inspection, ensuring every vehicle meets strict performance and appearance standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare steel and aluminum vehicle surfaces by sanding, filling, and cleaning to achieve smooth, uniform finishes.
- Mix and apply primers, base coats, and clear coats in accordance with specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
- Perform precise color matching, blending, and touch-up work to meet design and customer requirements.
- Inspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, sags, and imperfections, and correct them to maintain high-quality standards.
- Operate spray equipment and other tools safely and effectively in a paint booth environment.
- Complete basic documentation related to paint work, including recording materials used and tracking paint and supplies.
- Follow detailed specifications, color schemes, diagrams, and work orders to ensure accurate and consistent results.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of paints, solvents, and related materials.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of chemicals.
- Collaborate with team members in manufacturing and finishing to ensure vehicles move efficiently through the production process.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of professional experience as an automotive paint technician, preferably in vehicle manufacturing, heavy truck, or emergency apparatus such as fire trucks and ambulances.
- Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems, including primers, base coats, and clear coats.
- Proficiency in surface preparation techniques for steel and aluminum, including sanding, filling, and cleaning.
- Demonstrated ability to operate spray equipment and perform high-quality paint application.
- Experience with color matching, blending, and performing detailed touch-up work.
- Ability to identify and correct paint defects such as runs, sags, and other imperfections.
- Experience with PPG paint products (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, color schemes, diagrams, and work orders.
- Capability to complete basic documentation and track paint materials accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Familiarity with painting large vehicles such as heavy trucks or specialty units.
- Comfort working with personal protective equipment, including respirators.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a production workflow.

Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility where you will work primarily in a paint booth environment. You can expect regular exposure to paint fumes, dust, noise, and varying temperatures, with appropriate ventilation and controls in place. The role is physically active and requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. You will use personal protective equipment, including respirators and other safety gear, and follow established safety procedures throughout your workday.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
