What is PPC advertising?

PPC (Pay-Per-Click) advertising is a digital marketing model where advertisers pay a fee each time their ad is clicked. It is commonly used on search engines like Google and Bing, as well as social media platforms. PPC allows businesses to target specific audiences and keywords, driving relevant traffic to their websites. The most popular form of PPC is search engine advertising, where ads appear at the top of search results. This method can be highly effective for generating leads, increasing brand visibility, and boosting sales.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PPC advertising specialist?

To thrive as a PPC Advertising Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, campaign management experience, and a solid understanding of digital marketing principles, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications like Google Ads. Expertise with platforms such as Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, and analytics tools like Google Analytics is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help optimize campaigns and collaborate with clients or teams. These skills ensure campaigns are data-driven, cost-effective, and aligned with business goals for maximum ROI.

What are some common challenges faced by PPC advertising specialists, and how can they be addressed?

PPC Advertising specialists often encounter challenges such as staying updated with frequent platform changes, optimizing campaigns for better ROI, and managing tight budgets. To address these, it's important to engage in continuous learning, utilize automation tools for campaign management, and regularly analyze data to identify improvement areas. Collaborating closely with creative teams and clients also helps ensure alignment on goals and strategies for more effective campaigns.

Job description

As an Amazon PPC Manager, you will be vital in continuing our efforts as an industry leader by creating best-in-class PPC strategies for accounts on Amazon, Walmart and Instacart while working with a team of PPC Specialists and Data Specialists to drive profitable sales growth for Acadia's clients.

This role is one that is challenging and rewarding as you develop your PPC skills and stay up to date with Amazon, Walmart, Target and Instacart's new paid search features, leveraging Acadia's industry leading position within the space. The successful candidate has an opportunity to develop an exciting career in a dynamic, growing digital marketing company.
This position reports to a Team Lead.

A week in the life of an Acadia PPC Manager

A snapshot of a typical week for a Acadia Amazon PPC manager captures:

  • No-stress commuting. You work from home so your daily commute is only the amount of time it takes for you to walk into your home office or travel to your favorite coffee shop for a change of scenery.

  • Advertising Optimization. You use Amazon's Advertising Console dashboards to identify opportunities and optimize our clients' PPC advertising campaigns on a daily / weekly basis. You use additional third party software to perform keyword research and implement automated optimization tactics.

  • Communication. Your work calendar has internal and client appointments to present the latest results, activities and planned tactics for the upcoming 90 days. You've gotten to the essence of clients' needs and identified the ways Acadia can be their guide to achieving them.

  • Management. You directly oversee a small team of PPC Specialists who own their own clients. You will hold consistent 1:1 meetings and support their development and growth in the PPC field and Specialist role.

  • Collaboration. Acadia is a team of go-getters, innovators and industry experts. Over the week, you communicate with PPC colleagues to exchange experiences, coordinate with team members who work on other aspects of the client business (brand protection, SEO, organic marketing) and define strategies that are aligned with one another.

  • Innovation. You check out the competition to see what strategies they're employing to drive growth. You use that as inspiration to pull together a plan that will drive new business for Acadia.

  • Reporting. You report to clients in your portfolio on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. You not only deliver the data, but you also deliver the story behind the data and develop next steps to improve performance further.

  • Trends. You can quickly identify trends within the account you manage and take appropriate action to course correct.

  • Thought Leadership. You contribute to the company owned blog, attend company hosted webinars, and participate in live events where you share your latest views on Amazon advertising's developments and opportunities.

Before you know it, another week has come to a close and you go into the weekend energized knowing you've once again contributed to the growth and success of Acadia and the brands we support.

Job Expectations

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the following areas:

  • Managing complex pay per click and display advertising campaigns with thousands of targeting options per account.

  • Working in a collaborative team culture.

  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.

  • Identifying opportunities for clients' growth and new services for existing markets.

  • Ability to provide high level summaries and efficiently present in depth analysis.

Candidates must quickly become comfortable articulating the value of Acadia to clients and prospects by representing our company's services while maintaining a deep client focus. A lifelong learner with a strong drive for results is essential.

Candidates should possess

  • Bachelor's degree in business or marketing is preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience with Pay Per Click advertising (Amazon Advertising, Google Ads, Bing Ads, Facebook Ads)

  • 1+ years of experience with Amazon Advertising

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Ability to work well independently and be self-motivated

  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication

  • Attention to detail while also having the ability to handle multiple priorities

Our interview process consists of 3 virtual interviews and a brief technical assessment for successful candidates. We will also ask candidates for 2-3 professional references from past employers when making our offer.
