Medium Voltage Field Service Technician – Switchgear / Transformers / Protective Relays / Power Distribution

URGENT NEED!

We are seeking a Medium Voltage Field Service Technician to support the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium voltage electrical distribution equipment. This position plays a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of critical electrical infrastructure across utility, industrial, commercial, and mission-critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform field testing, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of medium voltage electrical equipment.
  • Service and inspect switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, motor control equipment, and power distribution systems.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance activities on electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform acceptance testing, relay testing, insulation resistance testing, and power system diagnostics.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, protection and control drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Support equipment energization, outage planning, and startup activities.
  • Coordinate with customers, project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Prepare service reports, test documentation, and commissioning records.
  • Maintain compliance with all company, client, OSHA, and NFPA safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience working with medium voltage electrical equipment.
  • Experience commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, substations, power distribution systems, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches), and standby generators.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and protection diagrams.
  • Understanding of electrical safety practices including LOTO and NFPA 70E.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to customer sites.
  • Ability to pass background and driving record checks.

  • Medium voltage switchgear (5kV–35kV)
  • Power transformers
  • Protective relays (SEL, ABB, GE, Schweitzer, etc.)
  • Circuit breakers and reclosers
  • Substation equipment
  • Electrical acceptance testing
  • Relay commissioning and troubleshooting
  • UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems
  • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
  • Generator installation, commissioning, startup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Utility, industrial, renewable energy, data center, healthcare, mission-critical, or critical infrastructure environments

Skills & Expectations

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities.
