Job Summary:
Volvo Penta is a leading provider of sustainable power solutions for critical industries. They are seeking a Technical Product Manager to lead the technical direction of power generation solutions, requiring strong engineering expertise to translate customer needs into product specifications and drive product strategy across the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Monitor power generation industry trends and emerging technologies
• Shape product direction and identify new opportunities
• Benchmark existing market offerings to identify where we can differentiate and add customer value
• Develop clear competitive insights to position our power solutions effectively
• Actively seek customer needs to inform product design
• Drive product and investment decisions in a complex, capital-intensive environment
• Make product decisions where choices have a multi-decade impact
• Work within Volvo Penta globally to integrate needs in projects and design
• Translate customer requirements into product specification
• Partner with global Product Development teams
• Incorporate regional requirements in global product design
• Define performance targets (power, fuel efficiency, noise) and regulatory considerations
• Define system architecture and requirements across applications
• Evaluate design tradeoffs, integration challenges, and feasibility
• Engage in customer visits, market reviews, and product planning activities
• Support the full product lifecycle—from concept, design, and development through launch, scaling, and end-of-life planning
• Navigate evolving emissions, safety, and regulatory standards to ensure products meet current and future compliance expectations
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (such as mechanical, electrical, controls, or similar)
• 3+ years of industry technical experience in power/energy generation, power grid engineering/grid integration, utility engineering, power systems, or related
• Proven knowledge of power/engine systems, backup power systems, gen sets, engine technologies, grid technology/landscape, data center design/development
• Strong understanding of power generation, grid infrastructure, data center environments, utility engineering and related areas
• Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
• Strong credibility working with directly with commercial and engineering teams
• Clear interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels of employees, leaders, customers, suppliers, partners, and other stakeholders
• Advanced communication and presentation skills in both US and global contexts
• Fully proficient with Microsoft 365 tools
• Ability to meet physical demands while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, with or without accommodation, to: Stand, walk, or sit, sometimes for prolonged periods; Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; See, speak, and hear, including distinguishing visual and audible signals necessary for safety and effective communication; Use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; Reach with hands and arms to access products, tools, and controls; Lift, move, or carry up to twenty (20) pounds unassisted; Climb stairs, ladders, sometimes in confined spaces; Inspect or observe products in small or confined spaces; Have stamina for long and unpredictable days, including extended hours, sometimes weekends; Work with loud noise levels; Work in various settings such as industrial sites, outdoor environments, in various weather conditions; Frequent travel including overnight stays
• To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in engineering or related field preferred
• Working knowledge of emerging powertrain technologies (electrification, alternative fuels, hybrid systems, connectivity, remote diagnostics) preferred
• Bilingual (English plus Spanish, Swedish, etc.) a plus
