Job description

Own the field-side technical integrity of the electrical infrastructure powering Highlandโ€™s vehicle depots, including utility service, switchgear, transformers, conductors, surge protection, and chargers.
Perform field inspections and commissioning support at newly constructed and energized depots; verify infrastructure matches design intent and is safe, serviceable, and operational.
Develop a process to evaluate and sign off on existing operational sites acquired by Highland.
Validate and troubleshoot energy quality, including voltage stability, power quality, phase balancing, and grounding.
Assess as-built construction quality, equipment mounting, clearances, access, and maintainability.
Conduct single-point-of-failure analysis and prioritize uptime-risk remediation across the depot portfolio.
Incorporate field feedback and reliability best practices into future sites with Construction Electrical Engineering and Procurement.
Provide remote and on-site technical support to field technicians and reliability managers; serve as escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.
Develop and deliver technician training on infrastructure architecture, safe work practices, troubleshooting, and equipment procedures.
Support operational readiness and performance of charger, vehicle, and upstream-asset interconnections, including BESS, solar canopies, and V2G integrations.
Partner with Energy to characterize power-conversion efficiency and validate losses against charge-management profiles.
Review sold projects for operational readiness, access, serviceability, spare-parts strategy, and maintainability.
Cross-train with Charger Reliability Engineering.
Develop and maintain infrastructure standards, inspection and commissioning checklists, and documentation.

Requirements
  • 5+ years in electrical, power, or infrastructure engineering with substantial field timeโ€”EV charging, utilities, energy, or fleet depot environments preferred; prior field service engineering experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience training, mentoring, or directly supporting field technicians, both in person and remotely, with genuine comfort troubleshooting alongside technicians over the phone.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA electrical safety requirements, NFPA 70E, and arc flash principles, with the ability to apply and teach them in the field
  • Strong working knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution (switchgear, transformers, conductors, grounding, protection) and EV charging systems (AC/DC fast), including how equipment selection and installation quality drive long-term reliability and serviceability.
  • Exposure to metering, surge protection, temporary generation, and DERs (BESS, solar, V2G); proven ability to diagnose systemic failures across a portfolio and drive cross-functional resolution.
  • EE degree preferred; PE not required.
Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in electrical infrastructure integrity, including EV charging systems and power quality management, while providing technical support and training to field technicians. Proficient in applying safety standards and conducting thorough inspections to ensure operational readiness and reliability.
