Job description

Position Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Huntsville, Alabama

Our teams work across Hawaii, Nevada, Alabama, and remote locations to solve critical national security challenges with innovative, mission-focused technologies. 

Position Overview

EO Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and testing of High Energy Laser Weapon Systems. This position is focused on hardware-centric electrical engineering efforts including printed circuit board (PCB) design, embedded systems development, instrumentation systems, power electronics, and controls hardware/firmware development. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise designing and developing complex, robust, and ruggedized electrical components for defense applications and possess the technical leadership skills necessary to mentor junior engineers. The successful candidate will lead technical development efforts from concept through prototype, integration, test, and deployment while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the design, development, and testing of complex electrical hardware components for Department of War High Energy Laser Weapon Systems

  • Develop complex electrical architectures supporting embedded processing, controls, instrumentation, communication, and power distribution systems that integrate with opto-mechanical hardware

  • Develop multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB) designs using Altium Designer

  • Design and develop analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronics circuitry

  • Develop FPGA and microcontroller-based embedded hardware solutions

  • Support firmware development and hardware/firmware integration activities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems and instrumentation hardware

  • Develop complex cable assemblies, harnesses, and associated interface documentation

  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing documentation

  • Perform component selection, circuit simulation, and worst-case analysis

  • Support system integration, troubleshooting, and environmental testing activities

  • Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs), electrical drawings, and technical data packages

  • Support EMI/EMC design considerations and compliance efforts

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for electrical system issues

  • Collaborate closely with optical, mechanical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers

  • Support prototype development, design reviews, and transition to production

  • Ensure designs meet reliability, maintainability, safety, and performance requirements

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior electrical engineers and engineering technicians

  • Contribute to proposal efforts, technical planning, and architecture discussions as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in electrical hardware design and development

  • Experience developing electrical system architectures for complex DoW, aerospace, or mission-critical systems
    Strong experience with PCB design using Altium Designer

  • Experience designing embedded systems utilizing FPGAs and microcontrollers

  • Experience designing electrical controls hardware and firmware development

  • Strong background in analog and digital circuit design

  • Experience designing complex power circuitry and power distribution systems

  • Experience developing instrumentation and data acquisition systems

  • Proficiency using electrical test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and multimeters

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems at board and system levels

  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for electrical design and documentation

  • Strong technical communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

  • Experience supporting Directed Energy, aerospace, defense, or military systems

  • Familiarity with VHDL or Verilog development for FPGA systems

  • Experience with embedded C/C++ firmware development

  • Experience with ruggedized electronics and environmental qualification testing

  • Experience with cable and harness design for aerospace or defense systems

  • Familiarity with MOSA, SOSA, or open systems architectures

  • Experience supporting prototyping and low-rate production environments
