Job description

Job Title: Distribution Engineering IJob Description

This position involves planning, engineering, and designing electric and gas distribution systems. The role requires determining the need, size, location, and timing of power delivery infrastructure development while balancing economic, environmental, social, and regulatory constraints and reliability needs. The position involves the development of work packages for overhead, underground residential distribution, and underground cable/conduit field engineering. Responsibilities also include project requirements identification, conflict resolution with utilities, engineering and design calculations, and conducting post-construction reviews.

Responsibilities
  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
  • Comply with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.
  • Travel to sites for inspections and perform engineering design work upon return to the office.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
  • Develop permitting documents for various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Provide engineering support during construction and perform post-construction reviews to ensure standards compliance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and apply engineering principles and design for mitigation.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Interest in developing work packages for Overhead (OH), Underground (UG), Underground Residential Distribution (URD), Make Ready, and Street Light projects.
  • Familiarity with GIS and WMS systems such as GE Smallworld and Bentley Expert Designer.
  • Ability to work both in field and office settings.
  • Willingness to learn customer engineering and construction standards.
  • Experience in coordination of conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
  • Assessment and development of design packages for complex cable/conduit projects.
  • Knowledge of mainline vault medium voltage switchgear, network system design, and distribution system protection and coordination.
Work Environment

The position is based in the office located in Houston with no hybrid work options available. The role requires occasional travel to site locations for inspections.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.81 - $29.81/hr.
