Job Description

We are seeking a strong, senior candidate to support BIW's efforts to provide high-quality business intelligence (BI) and data visualization services to business stakeholders throughout the company. This position will be expected to independently represent the Data Services team with internal customers and external partners. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Business Intelligence Specialist ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership:
    • Be a safety leader for your team and ensure that each person leaves in the condition they came in.
    • Ensure all safety training is completed on time.
  • Project Execution:
    • Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for BI development in conjunction with end users, managers, and other stakeholders.
    • Conduct research and make recommendations on BI products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
    • Direct, organize, and lead projects in the implementation and use of new BI software tools and systems.
    • Test and document all new or modified BI systems, applications, and programs.
    • Assist in the design of databases and data warehouses to ensure interoperability with BI solutions.
    • Analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for BI front-end applications.
  • Training and Development:
    • Participate in training to further working knowledge of new BI tools and methodologies.
    • Attend BIW training opportunities as required.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication:
    • Act as ambassador for BI benefits across the organization; promote BI usage to relevant departments.
    • Collaborate effectively across DBA and data engineering functions.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Assist troubleshooting of BI tools, systems, and software; performance-tune these applications as necessary.
    • Identify and implement BI process improvements as required.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field is preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a data-centric or BI role.
  • Strong ability to analyze user requirements and build front-end BI applications according to specifications.
  • Experience with Tableau required; experience with Power BI preferred.
  • Understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server, MS Access, Oracle DB.
  • Experience with data flow mapping preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
