Position Summary
 The Senior BI Engineer is responsible for the governance, development, and maintenance of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions across the health plan, delivery system, and shared services departments. This role oversees the design and management of Power BI semantic models, datasets, and reporting structures that support consistent, governed, and scalable analytics. The Senior BI Engineer works closely with data architecture, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure reporting assets are accurate, reliable, and aligned with organizational standards. The position also provides technical leadership in Power BI development practices and supports enterprise adoption of selfservice analytics.
Job Description

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the migration of legacy reporting platforms (e.g., Cognos, Tableau, SSRS) to Power BI, ensuring continuity, accuracy, and performance.
  • Designs and implement robust semantic models and data sets to support self-service analytics and standardized reporting across clinical, operational, and financial domains.
  • Establishes and enforce Power BI governance standards, including workspace architecture, data security, and lifecycle management.
  • Partners with data architecture and engineering teams to ensure optimized data pipelines and integration with enterprise data warehouses or data lakes.
  • Collaborates with clinical, actuarial, and operational stakeholders to define KPIs, reporting requirements, and data visualization strategies.
  • Mentors junior analysts, promoting best practices in DAX, Power Query, and data modeling.
  • Monitors and optimizes Power BI performance, including dataset refresh schedules, query tuning, and report responsiveness.
  • Supports change management and user adoption through training, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master's Preferred

Licensure/certification:

  • Microsoft Power BI certification (PL-300 or PL-600) preferred.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in business intelligence or analytics, with at least 2 years in a Senior Power BI development role.

Knowledge:

  • Commonly known principles to execute the duties of this job.
  • Familiarity with provider organizations, ACOs, and/or health insurance operations.
  • Demonstrated experience migrating reports and dashboards to Power BI in a healthcare setting.
  • Deep expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and dimensional data modeling.
  • Strong understanding of semantic layer design and enterprise data architecture.
  • Experience working with healthcare data such as claims, encounters, EHR, HEDIS, risk adjustment, or quality metrics.
  • Familiarity with value-based care models, population health analytics, or CMS reporting requirements.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and communicate well within IT and within the business.
