We are seeking a Technology Governance Automation Engineer to support and advance Optum Bank's governance, risk, and compliance capabilities. This role will engineer scalable, automated solutions that reduce manual effort across the bank's Risk Level 1 control environment, including regulatory examinations, audits, risk assessments, security posture management, and vendor support environments -while remaining fully aligned with banking control and audit expectations.

The Technology Governance Automation Engineer partners closely with Risk, Compliance, Audit, Legal, Information Security, Technology, and Vendor Support teams to ensure governance activities are consistent, auditable, and efficiently executed. The role emphasizes data-driven decision making, structured process design, and increasing automation using modern analytics and AI-assisted tools.

Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement

You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

Analyze and document technology risks, control effectiveness, and remediation activities. Maintain traceability between regulations, policies, controls, and supporting evidence. Assist with Risk Level 1 governance processes and ongoing control monitoring

Audit & Regulatory Support

  • Coordinate and support internal audits, regulatory examinations, and management reviews while continuously identifying opportunities to automate processes and reduce manual effort. Prepare, validate, and manage audit evidence and documentation using scalable, repeatable approaches. Track issues, findings, and remediation actions to closure, and enhance exam readiness through consistent, automated documentation, reporting, and governance metrics

Process Automation & Analytics

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate governance, audit, and administrative processes. Use Python and SQL for data analysis, reporting, and lightweight automation. Leverage AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex, and Claude Code to accelerate documentation, data validation, and workflow improvements under appropriate governance controls

Security, Vendor & Platform Coordination

  • Support governance activities related to information technology, information security, and vendor support. Assist in integrating data from GRC, security, identity, and vendor platforms. Help analyze security posture data, access reviews, and control attestations to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy

Data, Reporting & Documentation

  • Develop and maintain governance dashboards, reports, and metrics using SQL, Databricks, Power BI, or similar tools. Ensure documentation is accurate, current, and examination ready. Contribute to standards, procedures, and process documentation supporting governance and compliance objectives

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in CS or IT or engineering related field
  • 5 years of work experience in technology governance, IT risk, compliance, audit, or information security within a banking or similarly regulated environment
  • 5 years of direct experience supporting audits or regulatory examinations, including building or automating solutions for evidence collection, validation, remediation tracking, and examiner support
  • 3 years of handson experience using Python and SQL to build and maintain automated workflows, data pipelines, or tooling that support governance, compliance, or vendor control processes
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience using Databricks, Power BI, or similar tools to support enterprise analytics, automation, or reporting for governance, compliance, audit, or vendor-risk activities
  • 1 years of experience leveraging AIassisted productivity, development, or machinelearning-based tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Codex, Claude Code) to automate or scale governance, compliance, or vendor support workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial services or banking environments
  • Familiarity with FFIEC, GLBA, HITRUST, or similar regulatory frameworks
