Compensation: $21.00 per hour
A Brief Summary of This Position:
Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Painter position in the Paint department. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will, while working under the direct supervision of the Paint Supervisor, be accountable for the daily activities of the Paint department at a shop floor supervision level, including Safety, Quality and Productivity of the employees working under their supervision.
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain compliance with regulations and policies regarding the safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes. Records all liquid paints and solvents used during each 4-hour period.
  • Assure that painting volume is limited to appropriate levels to assure compliance with regulations and policies regarding emissions.
  • Ensure that all employees working under his or her supervision are working safety and within current Valmont guidelines. Maintain acceptable housekeeping at all times.
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance is completed on designated equipment and uses proper measures to assure long and productive life of all equipment and facilities.
  • Read and interprets daily workloads to determine what products are required for painting and reviews f-specs for special applications and prioritize according to shipping and or work schedule requirements.
  • Know proper operation methods of tools and equipment used by employees working under his or her supervision. Such as crane, forklift, straddle truck, conveyor systems, blasting equipment, powder and liquid painting equipment, curing oven, wrapping equipment, and thickness gauges.
  • Inspect products after curing to assure a high quality of finish with proper thickness. Log thickness readings on log sheet for tracking purposes.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
  • 1 year experience with powder coating and liquid coatings.
  • 1 year experience mixing paint to desired specifications.
  • Be able to read and interpret production drawings and Valmont specifications as related to coating requirements.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiar with the E-mail and mainframe computer system.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals.
  • Must be able to read and write.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2 years past supervisory experience.

Working Conditions:
The employee is continually exposed to a working environment consisting of smoke and irritating particulate impurities, acid fumes from pickling tanks, and large quantities of windblown dust and ash produced as by-product to the process. In addition, the nature of the industry results in extreme heat in the summer (typically 10-15 degrees above outdoor temperature) and melting snow off of incoming material results in damp, cold working conditions in the winter. The winter conditions are doubly hard to manage. The average employee dresses to be comfortable while doing his / her assigned task, and in doing so, subjects him / herself to chilling and cold as large fluctuations in temperature are brought about by the moving of material in and out of the facility.
