Full Job Description

Potts Masonry Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Masonry Foreman to lead crews on high-end residential custom stone and brick projects throughout West Michigan. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled mason who can read blueprints, organize daily workflow, maintain quality standards, and keep projects moving safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, leads by example, and takes pride in craftsmanship, jobsite organization, and team productivity.

Based in West Michigan, Potts Masonry is a multi-generational family-owned business led by John Potts, Jeff Vander Laan, and Matt Potts. Known for excellence, the company brings over 35 years of expertise and a dedicated team of skilled professionals, ensuring projects are executed with precision, efficiency, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead and organize a masonry crew on custom residential projects

  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications

  • Establish wall layout, heights, sequencing, and daily priorities

  • Work alongside the team to set the pace and maintain productivity

  • Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are on-site and ready for daily work

  • Inspect work in progress and completed work for quality and accuracy

  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites

  • Communicate project needs, labor needs, and jobsite issues with leadership

  • Enforce PPE, fall protection, scaffolding, and general jobsite safety standards

  • Identify and solve field issues quickly and effectively

  • Represent Potts Masonry professionally on client-facing residential job sites

Daily Priorities:
  • Study the blueprint and understand the scope of work

  • Establish daily job priorities and production goals

  • Plan layout, heights, and job sequencing

  • Keep the crew productive and working safely

  • Monitor jobsite cleanliness, organization, and workflow

  • Inspect work for quality throughout the day

  • Communicate crew needs or jobsite concerns with Matt, Jeff, or direct supervisor

The ideal candidate should possess:
  • Minimum 5 years of masonry experience

  • Strong experience with brick, block, and stone installation

  • Experience leading or directing a masonry crew

  • Ability to read blueprints and perform layout accurately

  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

  • Commitment to quality craftsmanship and jobsite safety

  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and conditions

  • Physical stamina to lift heavy materials and perform demanding manual labor

  • Valid drivers license

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience on high-end residential/custom projects

  • OSHA 10 certification

  • First Aid / CPR certification

  • Forklift, telehandler, or lift certification

  • Experience training or mentoring less experienced crew members

  • Working indoors and outdoors

  • Working in hot, cold, wet, and changing weather conditions

  • Working on scaffolding, lifts, and elevated surfaces

  • Working around machinery, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment

  • Working on uneven or slippery surfaces

  • Working in close proximity to other crew members
