Job description

Internship Opportunity In Agronomy

R.D. Offutt Farms and Syngenta, agriculture leaders, are partnering together to create a unique opportunity for college students pursuing a career in agriculture. This internship opportunity will provide the selected students with a hands-on learning experience working on real projects and real solutions. The agronomy interns will learn about nutritional value and sustainability of the potato, crop development, insect, weed and disease scouting, soil sampling, petiole sampling, social responsibility in agriculture and initiate an individual agronomy project before the end of the internship. They will see the vertically integrated farm experience from seed production all the way through processing the raw product. They will work with industry experts from R.D. Offutt Farms, Syngenta and University Professors who support the potato industry.

$16- $19 / hour

Specific Duties Include:

  • Assist with crop development, insect, weed and disease scouting, soil sampling, petiole sampling, social responsibility in agriculture and complete an individual agronomy project before the end of the internship and field agronomy problem solving.
  • Gain on-the-job experience learning from industry experts from R.D. Offutt Farms, Syngenta and University faculty
  • Opportunity to present project to leadership (15-minute presentation and Q&A)
  • Opportunity to receive presentation training through Syngenta
  • Access to Syngenta Campus and Learning Edge resources and training
  • Maintain a clean work area, as well as care for all tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Identify and communicate solutions in their area of responsibility.
  • Communicate effectively with management and other team members.
  • Be a self-starter; ability to work independently as well as with other personnel and management.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook.
  • Conduct self in the presence of customers and community to present a professional image of R.D. Offutt Farms and Syngenta.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled or attending an approved agriculture program or another program approved in writing by R.D. Offutt Farms and Syngenta.
  • Maintain acceptable GPA and attendance while in the program.
  • Student must proactively communicate with management while attending school including providing a copy of their transcripts to R.D. Offutt Farms and Syngenta management after each quarter or semester.
  • Adhere to academic policies, rules and regulations set forth by the higher learning center the student is attending.
  • Agriculture experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to assemble and perform some maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Candidate must have valid work authorization and be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship
