CDS is seeking an enthusiastic Entry Level Software Engineer to support the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) by building secure, high-performance applications that advance critical law enforcement operations. This is an exciting opportunity for early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience developing modern web applications and APIs while working with mission-driven developers, analysts, customers, and project leadership in a secure government environment. Responsibilities:
• Develop, test, and deploy web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
• Build RESTful APIs for secure data integration across DEA systems.
• Design and optimize data models with relational (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Elasticsearch) databases.
• Support the integration of AI/ML-powered features at a high level (e.g., calling inference APIs, working with pre-built models).
• Participate in rapid prototyping of tools based on evolving mission requirements.
• Ensure applications adhere to federal security and compliance standards.
• Document technical processes and application workflows.
• Engage in daily standups and collaborate with team members in agile development cycles. Required Skills/Qualifications:
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1–2 years of experience in software development (internships, co-op, or professional).
• Experience with at least one modern JavaScript framework (React, Vue, Angular) through coursework, personal projects, or professional experience.
• Familiarity with building RESTful APIs using Node.js or similar.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of secure coding practices.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts or willingness to learn.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Proficiency with version control systems, specifically Git. Preferred Skills:
• Previous experience (including internships or class projects) supporting government, law enforcement, or secure environments.
• Knowledge of federal security or compliance frameworks
• Familiarity with Docker or other containerization tools.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Clearance: Applicants must possess Secret or higher clearance.
