How much do postdoctoral viral vector jobs pay per year?
What are Postdoctoral Viral Vector positions?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Postdoctoral Viral Vector researcher, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Postdoctoral Viral Vector vs Postdoctoral Gene Therapy Scientist?
| Aspect | Postdoctoral Viral Vector | Postdoctoral Gene Therapy Scientist |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | PhD in Molecular Biology, Virology, or related field | PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related field |
| Work Environment | Research labs focused on vector development and production | Research labs or biotech companies working on gene therapy applications |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Biotech, pharmaceutical, academic research | Biotech, pharmaceutical, clinical research |
| Common Search & Comparison Intent | Understanding roles in vector design and production | Understanding roles in gene therapy development |
Both roles involve advanced research in genetic technologies, but a Postdoctoral Viral Vector primarily focuses on designing and producing viral vectors for gene delivery, while a Postdoctoral Gene Therapy Scientist works on developing and testing gene therapy treatments. The roles often overlap in skills and industry settings, but their specific focus areas differ within the gene therapy pipeline.
What are some common challenges faced by postdoctoral researchers working with viral vectors, and how can they be addressed?

Posting Summary
The Kaelber lab is recruiting a scientist to understand the fundamental principles of viral genome packaging. The postdoctoral associate will understand DNA packaging in adeno-associated virus and AAV gene therapy vectors using techniques of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), single-molecule force spectroscopy (SMFS), biochemistry, mutational analysis, cell culture, activity assays, et cetera. This position will involve significant collaborations with scientists in academia and industry. Training will be provided in cutting-edge structural technologies. Mentorship of 1-2 undergraduate students will be encouraged. BSL-2 pathogens will be utilized. The successful applicant will be able to synthesize experimental data into conceptual models.
The Kaelber lab is located in the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, home to several experts in cryoEM and in molecular dynamics. The building is shared with the RCSB Protein Data Bank(PDB). Prof. Kaelber also directs the Rutgers New Jersey Cryo-electron Microscopy & Tomography Core Facility, which contains four electron microscopes including North America's first "Aquilos 2"-model cryogenic focused ion beam/scanning electron microscope as well as a Krios cryoTEM.
