Postdoctoral Position In Peptide Synthesis information

What is a postdoctoral position in peptide synthesis?

A Postdoctoral Position in Peptide Synthesis is a research-focused role for individuals who have recently completed their Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field. The primary responsibility is to design, synthesize, and characterize peptides for various scientific studies, often in drug discovery or biomedical research. Postdocs in this area may also be involved in developing new synthetic methodologies, analyzing experimental data, and publishing their findings. These roles typically provide training and experience necessary for an academic or industry career in chemical and biological sciences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a postdoctoral position in peptide synthesis?

To thrive in a Postdoctoral Position in Peptide Synthesis, you need a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field with a solid background in peptide synthesis and purification techniques. Experience with analytical tools such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, and peptide synthesizers, as well as familiarity with relevant software, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective collaboration and communication skills help you excel in multidisciplinary research environments. These skills ensure the successful design, synthesis, and analysis of peptides, contributing to impactful research outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced in a postdoctoral position in peptide synthesis, and how can they be addressed?

Postdoctoral researchers in peptide synthesis often encounter challenges such as optimizing synthetic routes for complex peptides, managing the purification of difficult sequences, and troubleshooting low yields or unexpected side reactions. These hurdles can be addressed by staying current with the latest literature, using advanced purification techniques like HPLC, and collaborating closely with other chemists or biochemists in the lab. Open communication with mentors and team members also helps in brainstorming solutions and sharing best practices, fostering a collaborative environment that is essential for overcoming technical obstacles.

Job description

Doctoral-Level Researchers, Food as Medicine Literature Reviews

Center for Food as Medicine & Longevity (CFAML)

New York, NY. Part-time, project-based.

About Us

The Center for Food as Medicine & Longevity is a nonprofit research organization. We study how nutrition can be integrated into disease prevention, treatment, and healthspan optimization, and we evaluate and translate the evidence on food and dietary supplements for clinical and public-health use.

We are undertaking a multi-year initiative to develop academic literature reviews and applied research syntheses on how food and dietary supplements affect disease processes, functional aging, and healthspan. These resources are written for clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and members of the public who want to understand the evidence.

Examples of our published work: Disease, Wellness, and Healthspan Evidence-Based Food as Medicine Research and Resource Guides

Position Overview

CFAML is hiring doctoral-level researchers to write narrative and systematic literature reviews on the role of food and dietary supplements in disease prevention, management, and longevity.

The position is a good fit for postdoctoral scholars and recent PhD, MD, or DrPH graduates who want to do translational research that reaches clinical and public-health audiences while holding to academic standards.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive narrative and/or systematic reviews of the peer-reviewed literature
  • Evaluate the evidence on food-based and dietary supplement interventions for specific diseases and healthspan states
  • Write manuscripts that are academically rigorous and usable by clinical, policy, and applied audiences
  • Translate complex findings into structured, accessible analysis that remains scientifically accurate
  • Manage references, citations, and drafts in Zotero
  • Revise and edit for clarity, methodological transparency, and internal consistency

  • Qualifications
    • Postdoctoral researcher, or recent PhD, MD, or DrPH graduate from a recognized institution in nutrition, public health, medicine, or a related scientific discipline
    • A strong record in academic research, scientific writing, and literature synthesis
    • Experience managing large bodies of evidence and presenting findings clearly and precisely
    • Subject-matter expertise in one or more areas relevant to nutrition, disease prevention, and healthspan
    • Commitment to evidence-based research with practical relevance

  • Compensation and Appointment

Part-time and project-based. The appointment combines compensated research deliverables with an academic service component.

Literature review stipend: $400 to $600 per approved topic (for example, muscle health, lung health, gut health, immunity and aging).

Additional research or editorial work: approximately $25 to $30 per hour, subject to prior written agreement.

    Publication, Attribution, and Benefits
    • Eligible to serve as first author on narrative and/or systematic reviews from your assigned research
    • Credited as a contributor to CFAML resource guides
    • Listed on the CFAML website as lead researcher for your disease area or healthspan domain
    • Work with an interdisciplinary research organization focused on nutrition science, longevity, and health equity
    • Build a body of scholarly and applied work that is distributed beyond academic journals

  • How to Apply

Send the following to info@foodmedcenter.org. Applications submitted through other platforms will not be considered.

    1. A brief introduction
    2. A statement of interest that names the research areas you want to work in
