Position Description
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jeannine Cavender-Bares, Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (OEB) Professor and Harvard University Herbaria (HUH) Director, at Harvard University. The position will involve investigating the physiological and functional variation of plants using spectroscopy and will include greenhouse work, field work, plant phenotyping, computational analyses of hyperspectral data. The work will incorporate comparative evolutionary biology using extant plants populations and Herbaria collections.
The opening is for a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in one or more of the following areas: plant biology and spectroscopy, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, functional genetics, plant physiological ecology and remote sensing. All candidates must have received a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of appointment. The postdoc will be based at the Harvard University Herbaria (HUH) and will have access to all the resources available through the Department of OEB, The HUH and Harvard Forest. The position is available for 1 year(s), with the possibility of renewal for second or third year pending successful progress and funding availability and will include a competitive salary and full benefits.

Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. in biology, computational and data analytic skills, experience with spectroscopy, plant function, genetics, genomics, evolutionary biology or related field(s).
Additional Qualifications
A successful applicant will be able to provide evidence of at least some of the following:
- Extensive independent research experience
- Creativity and independence
- Experience analyzing hyperspectral data and developing machine learning models
- Genetic or molecular lab experience
- Bioinformatics, or statistical genetics experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
