Position Description
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks to hire a postdoctoral scholar in Special Education.
A post-doc is a professional appointment designed to provide recent doctoral degree recipients with an opportunity to gain experiences and skills that will advance their careers. A post-doc works under the supervision and sponsorship of a regular faculty member, who serves as a mentor to the post-doc, and it is expected that the faculty sponsor will provide an orientation and development plan for the post-doc, impart the realities and variety of careers available to the post-doc, and encourage learning opportunities to broaden the post-doc's aspirations and experiences.
The appointment involves substantial and full-time commitment to research, scholarship, teaching, or other professional activities. Eligibility for annual reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations during the term period, in addition to continuity of funding and departmental need. For more information, please visit Postdoctoral Scholar Appointments, AA/PPS No. 04.01.24 (7.21)
Within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, postdoctoral candidates with research interests in literacy instruction and intervention for students with and at risk for learning disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. Faculty in the department conduct grant-funded research, including projects funded through the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), and other branches of the U.S. Department of Education. These projects investigate evidence-based instruction for students with and at risk for disabilities, professional development models that support teachers in implementing these practices, and typical classroom practice. A postdoctoral scholar in this area would have the opportunity to collaborate on active federally funded projects, contribute to manuscript and grant preparation, and gain mentored experience in both research and professional development design.
This posting is for a post doctoral hire for Summer 2026 - June 2028.
Required Qualifications
- Recently awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field, with a research focus on literacy intervention for students with and at risk for learning disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with research and/or applied experience in evidence-based literacy instruction and/or professional development for educators serving students with and at risk for learning disabilities.
Application Procedures
Only applications submitted through the Texas State University website will be accepted and considered, https://jobs.hr.txstate.edu/postings/57729
Interested individuals should submit a:
- Current CV.
- Letter of interest outlining specific academic and professional experiences relevant for a postdoc research appointment.
- Statement of research interests (no longer than one page).
- Unofficial transcripts (all in one document).
- Two letters of recommendation.
As part of our application process, we are requesting contact information for three (3) academic references who can provide information about the applicant's research skills and experiences. Please provide the names and email addresses for your academic references in the Reference Letter section of the employment application.
The selected candidate will be required to provide official transcripts from the highest degree granting institution.
