Serves as key liaison between UH leadership, Cancer Center Education committee, mentors, external partners and trainees.
*Coordinates, integrates, and monitors education, training, strategic planning, and career enhancement activities at the UHCC in collaboration with the UHCC Education Committee. *Collaborates with the Associate Director for CRT Office and the Chair of the Education Committee in pre and post awards or educational grants for UHCC. *Prepares and writes annual progress reports to the NCI under the direction of the UHCC CRT leadership and the Education Committee.
*Manages and provides overall coordination of all training programs across training and career levels, i.e., High School Workshop, Summer Internship Program for undergraduate students, graduate assistants, and postdoctoral fellows. This includes recruitment, selection, placement with mentors, curriculum development, organization of lab safety and human subjects training, arranging final presentation sessions, and program evaluation, and follow-up. *Coordinates with UHCC HR in the hiring effort for the CRT programs and works with UHCC Fiscal to track grant expenditures
*Oversees the trainee monthly forum for career development and supports trainee-sponsored seminars. *Participates in the design and maintenance of the database for follow-up of trainees and evaluation of UH trainee outcomes, including surveys and internet searches. *Tracks all student interns, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees for success and prepares evaluation reports.
*Maintains relations with the Community Outreach Office and Shared Resources, community organizations (e.g., Science Fairs), and UH Training programs to facilitate collaboration and outreach. *Develops, recommends, and executes plans to build more effective research and training collaborations among the various UHCC programs including JABSOM, UH Departments, outside entities in the State of Hawaii, and local schools in Hawaii to deepen a sense of community, and to educate on UHCCs Cancer Research Enhancement and Training related activities. *Develops material for external facing communications channels (e.g., website, social media, other marketing efforts, etc.) to reach prospective students and trainees *Manages calls for application and reviews for trainee travel awards
*Responsible for designing and implementing communications strategy to students, trainees, faculty, and other stakeholders and encourage participation in CRT's programs and service Supervises graduate assistants in the CRT Office Other duties as assigned. *Denotes Essential Functions Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Health, Social and/or Natural Sciences, Education, or related field and three years (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities in program administration of research or educational activities or any equivalent combination of education and/ or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of project management, public relations, and/or administrative duties as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with project management, public relations, and/or administrative duties. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports, and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and database applications. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Supplemental Qualifications: Detail oriented with the ability to plan, organize and work on multiple projects and report to multiple people simultaneously. Able to work independently, make effective timely decisions and meet deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to use discretion when responding to inquiries.
Ability to exercise judgment, tact, patience, and discretion in applying and explaining policies and procedures. Demonstrated expertise in managing programs, evaluation research, and producing comprehensive reports. Desirable Qualifications: Master's Degree in Public Health, Natural or Social Sciences or Education.
