The Rutgers-Newark School of Criminal Justice is pleased to announce onePostdoctoral Associate position serving the Newark Public Safety Collaborative(NPSC). We are seeking an Associate specializing in data analysis and quantitative research methods, with a focus on geospatial analysis. The CalendarYear (CY) Associate position will be awarded for a one-year period beginning inSeptember or October 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on performanceand funding availability. The selectedcandidate will also be eligible for concurrent part-time teaching appointmentsat the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice.

The Postdoctoral Associate must be committed to using research as a tool to advance equity. The Associate will support research and evaluation efforts forthe Newark Public Safety Collaborative (NPSC) and its projects throughout theCity of Newark, including the dissemination of data, research findings, andanalytics aligned with NPSC's mission to democratize access to data and empowercommunity-led, co-produced responses to public safety challenges.

This position contributes to advancing an innovative, data-informed model ofpublic safety that strengthens community well-being while reducing inequities.Experience with place-based research, causal inference, and program evaluationinvolving community-based organizations, law enforcement, government agencies,and other stakeholders is highly desirable, as is experience designing,managing, and analyzing large administrative datasets.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work on projects involving longitudinal crimedata and other administrative data sources. Responsibilities include conductingquantitative analyses, managing and integrating complex datasets, preparing datadocumentation, and communicating findings to technical and non-technicalaudiences. Strong quantitative research skills and demonstrated experienceworking with various large datasets are preferred. The Postdoctoral Associatewill contribute to advanced statistical analyses, geospatial analysis, and datavisualization, as well as to the development and dissemination of findings fromNPSC-led public safety initiatives (see newarkcollaborative.org). Otherresponsibilities also include preparing policy briefs, technical reports, andjournal manuscripts, as well as presenting findings at academic and practitionerconferences, community meetings, and other public-facing convenings.

The Postdoctoral Associate may manage and archive research data, develop datavisualizations, conduct literature reviews, and draft academic manuscripts andpublic-facing reports that communicate key findings from NPSC's impactevaluations and related research to community partners, policymakers,practitioners, and the broader public.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference will be given to candidates with expertise in geospatialanalysis, data science, environmental criminology, crime analysis, and/orqualitative research methods, although applicants from related fields areencouraged to apply.

Prior experience conducting applied or basic research in urban settings isalso preferred.

Experience with R, Python, and/or GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS) ishighly desirable.
