Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Maintain laboratory stocks and supplies, maintained cell culture, purify plasmids and place orders.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

Research Assistant will report to Dr. Sergei Nekhai. She/he will be guided by a postdoctoral fellow. Experimental design will be conducted by Dr. Nekhai

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This is a two-year position supported Dr. Nekhai's NIH RO1 grant focused on the mechanism of HIV-1 restriction in patients with Sickle Cell Disease and individuals with sickle cell trait.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Order laboratory supply and reagents

  • Maintained culture cell lines.

  • Isolate RNA and proteins from the cells and mouse organs

  • Perform RT-PCR, Western Blot, and immunostaining of paraffin-embedded tissues

  • Organize results and upload them to the cloud storage

  • Participate in the laboratory meetings

  • Help to renew IBC, IACUC and IRB protocols.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Self-motivated, cooperative, and dedicated

  • Good communication skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Experience with cell cultures, agarose gels, PCR and Western blot are preferred

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

B.S. or M.S degree in microbiology, immunology, physiology, or related fields.
