Position Highlights
The Translational Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix (COM-P) is seeking multiple highly motivated candidates for full-time positions as Postdoctoral Research Associates in Dr. Liya Yin's laboratory. The lab focuses on cardiovascular disease research. The successful applicants will contribute towards research and research-related service in the area of translational cardiovascular research. The successful Postdoctoral applicants should be organized, detail oriented, productive and be able to work independently as well as with others. The Postdoctoral candidates will benefit from the interaction with the diverse and interdisciplinary environment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Breeds and maintains genetic mouse lines. Perform aspects related to cellular and molecular biology research that include, but are not limited to: bulk RNA-sequencing, scRNA-sequencing, bioinformatics, qRT-PCR, Immunoblotting, proteomics and metabolomics, and Immunocytofluorescence, 3D-imaging (micro-CT and light sheet), primary cell isolation and culture, cell energy metabolism with seahorse analysis, flowcytometry, molecular cloning, generation of DNA expression constructs.
  • Development and preparation of adenoviruses and adeno-associated viruses for expression construct gene transfer.
  • Perform in vivo physiological examination to animals including, but no limited to: echocardiography, tissue doppler, treadmill.
  • Perform open chest myocardial infarction surgery and repetitive ischemia surgery.
  • Develop and maintain detailed records of experiments to back the original data.
  • Analyze data with statistical tools and writing findings narrative reports as appropriate.
  • Present research results to the group meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals as appropriate.
  • Assist with preparation of grants from the lab.
  • Remain updated on the literature of the related research topic and develop the project aligned with the PI's research focus.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaption and modification of standard scientific techniques.
  • Design, perform, and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  • Attend and present research findings at regular group meetings.
  • Manage daily laboratory operations, including manage, maintain, and order laboratory equipment and supplies, and lab inventories related to cellular and molecular biology techniques that will include common use items (e.g., compressed gas, dry ice and liquid nitrogen).
  • Guide the work of others and/or provides guidance to a specialized laboratory or research area.
  • Serve as the bio-safety and chemical safety officer for TCRC, including the management of all lab safety and approval protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of scRNA-sequencing, bioinformatics, 3D-imaging (micro-CT and light sheet microscopy), in vivo physiological animal studies.
  • Knowledge of the cardiovascular physiology, particular in echocardiography, microsurgery in mouse and ex vivo vascular activity measurements are preferred.
  • Ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and graphic formats.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in biomedical science, molecular biology or vascular biology, biochemistry, physiology or related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In vivo animals studies, scRNA-seq and bioinformatic analysis
  • Experience and skilled in grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Proven track record of creativity and established track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
