A BASIC FUNCTION:
Howard University in Washington DC is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral
Fellow to investigate the genetic underpinnings of health disparities and develop strategies to address them. This may involve studying genetic variations associated with increased or decreased susceptibility to certain diseases or conditions, exploring the impact of genetic factors on treatment responses and medication efficacy, or examining the role of genetic and environmental interactions in health disparities.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
N/A
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Howard University in Washington DC is seeking to hire a postdoctoral
scholar to investigate the genetic underpinnings of health disparities and develop strategies to address them. Analysis of nucleic acid and protein biophysics, computational biology models, information-theoretic measures of network connectivity, computational bioinformatics models, and neurobiological systems will be required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
As a postdoctoral researcher in genomics and quantum biology, your responsibilities will include :
  • Designing studies, conducting genomic sequencing (including whole genome sequencing, Sanger sequencing, and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping).
  • Analyzing data, interpreting findings, and publishing and presenting results. Additionally, you will work collaboratively with others to address health disparities in research.
  • Research projects in this field often require a multidisciplinary approach, combining genomics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, and social sciences to comprehensively analyze the complex contributing factors to health disparities.
  • As part of your research, you may work with large-scale genomic datasets, such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS), next-generation sequencing data, or electronic health records, to identify genetic variants or biomarkers that may be associated with health disparities.
  • In addition to your research responsibilities, you may be assigned other related duties as needed.
  • Like other postdoctoral positions, the typical duration of a postdoctoral position in genomics and health disparities ranges from one to three years, depending on performance and renewal of funding.
  • During this time, you are expected to advance your research skills, publish your work, and build a strong foundation for your future career.
  • Participate actively and communicate effectively in a leadership role during lab/group meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences. Coordinate on-site and virtual meetings/lectures as needed.

CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Manage time and project(s) well with personal initiative. Mentor trainees and perform job-related administrative tasks as assigned.
