Job description

Description
Creating Connections Consortium (C3) is currently accepting applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships starting in the fall of 2014 at Connecticut College, Middlebury College, or Williams College.
Applications must be received via Interfolio by Nov. 15th at 11:59PM EST.
For information on C3, its objectives, strategy and programs, please visit the C3 website .
The C3 Postdoctoral Fellowship program is at the heart of the C3 strategy. Its fellows, coming from two prestigious research institutions, will:
  • experience first hand the many advantages of working in a liberal arts college environment
  • benefit from frequent interaction with senior faculty mentors and with other postdoctoral fellows in the three host colleges
  • engage with underrepresented undergraduate students to help them actively consider and be prepared for graduate school
  • be encouraged to explore open faculty positions at the member colleges of the Liberal Arts Diversity Officers Organization.
Terms
The annual stipend for the position is $44,000/year for two years, with a one-time research allowance of $10,000, and a travel allowance of $3,000/year for two years. The hosting College will also provide health and dental benefits.
During the period of residence at Connecticut College, Middlebury College or Williams College, the C3 Postdoctoral Fellows will be affiliated with an appropriate department or program and will be expected to teach two one-semester courses each year, normally one per semester.
Eligibility
The C3 postdoctoral Fellowship is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are Ph.D. candidates at the University of California, Berkeley, or Columbia University in one of the participating fields.
We especially encourage applicants who are from groups that are historically underrepresented in the academy. We define "underrepresented" as those who are either historically underrepresented (such as African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians or other Pacific Islanders), are first generation college students, or have followed nontraditional pathways to college due to exceptional talent and motivation in the face of adversity, such as societal, economic or academic disadvantages.
The C3 Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded to applicants with a demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing underrepresented groups in higher education careers, as evidenced by at least one of the following:
  • life experiences and educational background
  • demonstrated interest and experience in translating the creative critical discourse that comes from a non-traditional educational background into research
  • a research track record that shows interest in subjects and practices that will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education
  • a demonstrated understanding of the experiences of groups underrepresented in higher education.

Applicants must have completed all but dissertation at the time of application to the fellowship. Applicants are expected to have completed their degree before their fellowship term begins. Only those with degrees granted in 2011-2012, 2012-2013, or to be granted in 2014, are eligible to apply.
Application
Candidates must apply via Interfolio. No paper applications will be accepted. All application materials must be received before November 15, 2013. A complete application will consist of:
  • a cover letter explaining how you fit the eligibility criteria for the fellowship and identifying the departments/programs that you are interested in at each school (you may indicate more than one; the full list is available here);
  • a full curriculum vitae;
  • a brief statement of your teaching and future research interests (max 3 pages);
  • an official graduate school transcript;
  • three confidential letters of recommendation (instructions on how to request letters from your referees through Interfolio can be found here)
  • a writing sample (article, chapter, etc., max. 30 pages);
  • a timetable for completion of the degree or copy of the doctoral diploma.
