Job description

Why Genentech
A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Genentech.
The Opportunity
A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available within the laboratory of Dr. Sharookh Kapadia in the Department of Immunology Discovery. We are seeking a highly motivated, independent scientist to spearhead innovative research to identify novel biology in chronic inflammatory lung diseases, such as COPD, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, and inflammatory airway disorders. The successful candidate will be part of the Genentech post-doctoral training program that provides an outstanding environment and the opportunity to pursue fundamental basic science questions in an environment focused on drug development and breakthrough discoveries. You will have the opportunity to productively collaborate with researchers across multiple departments, present your work to project teams, and contribute to scientific publications.
Research Focus
The Kapadia Lab is focused on identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic targets for acute/chronic respiratory diseases. This fellowship will explore the underlying drivers of COPD pathophysiology by integrating in vitro screens with in vivo trait-based models exposed to clinically relevant viral, bacterial, and allergen exposures. Your work will aim to uncover fundamental biological insights to identify and characterize causal nodes that drive disease pathophysiology.
Who You Are:
  • Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology or cellular/molecular biology
  • The ideal candidate should possess deep scientific and technical expertise in epithelial, endothelial or innate immunity. We value researchers who are eager to bridge the gap between understanding basic mechanisms and innovative therapeutic development.
  • Consistent track record of independently conducting laboratory experiments and advancing at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience working with infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, fungi) and a solid foundation in innate/adaptive immunology and in vivo mouse work are highly desired.
  • Computational and lung biology experiences are preferred.
