Job description

Senior Postal Clerk

University Printing and Mail (UPM) is seeking a dependable and customer-focused Senior Postal Clerk to support the daily operations of University Mail Services. This position is responsible for receiving, sorting, processing, and distributing incoming mail and packages; collecting outgoing mail from campus departments; and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of mail and packages to faculty and staff across campus. The Senior Postal Clerk operates University vehicles, maintains established delivery schedules, and provides exceptional customer service to support the University mission.

Mail Services is an important element of the larger University Printing and Mail (UPM) family. While this position's primary focus is Mail Services, team members are expected to assist in other areas of UPM as needed to support departmental operations and fulfill UPM's mission of serving the greater university community. The Senior Postal Clerk plays a key role in maintaining efficient mail operations by sorting and organizing incoming mail and packages, supporting campus customers, and ensuring deliveries are completed accurately, safely, and on time.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and sort incoming mail and packages from USPS and other carriers.
  • Organize mail and packages by department and delivery route for campus distribution.
  • Deliver mail and packages to faculty, staff, and departments across campus.
  • Collect outgoing mail and packages from campus departments for processing and shipment.
  • Operate University vehicles safely while completing assigned delivery and pickup routes.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to campus customers.
  • Assist with operations in other areas of University Printing and Mail (UPM) as needed.
  • Support the University mission through reliable and professional mail services.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and write effectively
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license
  • Ability to accurately sort and distribute mail and packages; strong customer service skills
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous mail room, postal services, courier, shipping/receiving, or logistics experience.
  • Demonstrated safe driving record and strong driving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
