Professionals in post tensioning are typically responsible for the installation, stressing, and inspection of post-tensioning systems in concrete structures. Daily tasks often include preparing cables or tendons, operating hydraulic equipment, following technical drawings, and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. Post tensioning specialists usually collaborate closely with engineers, site supervisors, and other trades to coordinate installation schedules and resolve on-site challenges. The role involves both physical work and careful documentation, making attention to safety procedures and quality control essential in every project.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the post tensioning position?

To excel in Post Tensioning, you need a solid understanding of construction practices, the ability to read technical drawings, and hands-on experience with post-tensioning equipment, generally supported by relevant industry certifications or training. Familiarity with hydraulic jacks, stressing machines, and safety standards like OSHA is essential for this role. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for maintaining high safety and quality standards on-site. These capabilities ensure safe, accurate installation and tensioning of structural components within demanding construction environments.

What is a post tensioning?

A post-tensioning job involves reinforcing concrete structures by installing high-strength steel tendons, which are tensioned after the concrete has been poured and set. This method enhances the strength, durability, and load-bearing capacity of slabs, bridges, and other structures while minimizing cracking and material use. Workers in post-tensioning jobs typically install, stress, grout, and inspect tendons to ensure proper performance. These roles require technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols.

Job description

Project Manager

Job Title: Project Manager

Job Type: Full-time, Salaried

Location: Sterling VA

Position Summary :

Freyssinet Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our growing team, managing bridge rehabilitation, structural repair, and post-tensioning projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role sits within a recently strengthened operations structure: PMs are supported by a Division Manager who provides direct technical guidance and mentorship, and by an estimating team that partners closely through pursuit and award. We're looking for a candidate who is already operating as a Project Manager today and ready to bring that experience to a growing and expanding team.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage assigned projects from award through closeout budgets, schedules, subcontractor coordination, client relationships, and quality/safety compliance.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules (CPM), and proactively manage cost-to-complete, billing, and change order processes.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for DOT and other agency clients on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with Project Engineers and Superintendents to ensure field execution aligns with project plans and specifications.
  • Partner with the estimating team during and after award, providing field feedback that improves future bid accuracy.
  • Escalate technical or schedule risks to the Division Manager early and collaborate on resolution.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and compliance records (certified payroll, EEO, safety, Buy America/BABA where applicable).
  • Mentor and provide day-to-day direction to assigned Project Engineers.

Qualifications :

  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager in heavy civil, bridge, residential, road, or commercial construction.
  • Demonstrated track record delivering multi-million-dollar projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Working knowledge of CPM scheduling, cost control/reporting, contract and subcontractor management.
  • Comfortable managing direct client relationships, including public agency/DOT clients.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Familiarity with federal-aid/DOT contracting requirements (prevailing wage, certified payroll, EEO) is a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed across the company's multi-state footprint.

Scope of Responsibility :

Oversight of a project portfolio representing approximately $20 million in annual P&L across active bridge rehabilitation, replacements, structural repair, and post-tensioning projects.

Company Culture and Benefits:

Freyssinet Inc is committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. We offer the following benefits

  • Paid Time Off (including your birthday) & Sick Days
  • 10 Paid Holidays
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match
  • Stock Investment Program

Location & Travel :

Based out of Freyssinet's Sterling, VA headquarters, with regular travel to active project sites across the USA
