WEST LAWRENCE WATER AUTHORITY POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR

GENERAL MANAGER

This job description reflects the general duties and responsibilities of the position and is not interpreted as being all-inclusive. The employee may be assigned other duties not specifically included.

DEPARTMENT: West Lawrence Water Cooperative and/or West Lawrence Water Authority (hereinafter referred to as WLW) Directs all WLW employees along with managing all aspects of daily water operations reporting directly to WLWs Board of Directors.

The General Manager will be initially hired for a Ninety (90) day probationary period.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Preferably a B.S. Degree in Engineering, Business, Accounting or Finance or some other college degree with equivalent years of experience and/or certification.

EXPERIENCE: Preferably five years of increasingly responsible experience in management, preferably in a public utility.

CERTIFICATION: Preferably Certification in Water Treatment from the State of Alabama or Alabama Public Service Commission.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The General Manager is the chief officer of the Utilities, working under a five-member Board. He/she is responsible for carrying out the directives and policies of the Board, advising the Board about the laws, contracts and regulations which must be observed and keeping the Board apprised of the health of the Utilities both physically and financially.

He/she will work with the staff and all employees to provide utility services to the utilitys customers in a courteous and professional manner, keeping the welfare and safety of both the employees and general public in mind.

PAY RANGE/COMPENSATION: The pay range/compensation will be determined by a vote of the Board members of West Lawrence Water Cooperative and/or West Lawrence Water Authority (known as WLW). The beginning pay range for the General Manager shall be no less than $80,000.00. The General Manager shall have his/her family medical/insurance provided as part of his/her employment. Further, the General Manager shall receive as additional benefits, eleven (11) paid holidays; one (1) week paid vacation; six (6) paid personal days off; six (6) paid sick leave days; and a $15,000.00 life insurance policy paid for by WLW.
