Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) โ€“ PACU to provide high-quality post-operative care to patients recovering from anesthesia. The PACU RN is responsible for closely monitoring patients during the immediate recovery period, identifying complications, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patients are stable before transfer or discharge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from general, regional, and monitored anesthesia.
  • Assess and continuously monitor patients' airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, and vital signs.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythm, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, respiratory status, and level of consciousness.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to post-anesthesia complications and changes in patient condition.
  • Manage post-operative pain and nausea according to physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as ordered.
  • Maintain airway support and assist with emergency interventions when necessary.
  • Assess surgical sites, drains, dressings, and other post-operative needs.
  • Monitor patients for bleeding, respiratory depression, hypotension, arrhythmias, and other complications.
  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.
  • Communicate patient status and recovery progress with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provide thorough handoff reports when transferring patients to inpatient units or other areas.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care and discharge instructions.
  • Ensure safe patient transfer and appropriate discharge readiness.
  • Follow infection-control, medication-safety, and patient-safety standards.
  • Participate in emergency response and resuscitation activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Current and active RN license in the applicable state.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current AHA BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification required/preferred based on facility requirements.
  • Previous PACU, ICU, ER, or critical-care experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia assessment and recovery.
  • Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
  • Strong clinical, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
