Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides students who are currently enrolled in a Master or Ph.D. program of social work, psychology, guidance and counseling, or related human service field the opportunity to develop technique and enhance their skills as clinicians in an outpatient psychotherapy center. The program consists of an undergraduate internship and a 2-year post-graduate fellowship that will focus on preparing clinicians for a career in either the public or private mental health system. This will include a stipend of $5,000 per semester for a maximum of two semesters if the graduate is offered the opportunity to participate in the fellowship program
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be a currently enrolled masters or Ph.D. level student of social work, psychology, or guidance and counseling with an accredited college or university.
  • Students must have an interest in developing their clinical skills to work with children (0-23) and their families. A variety of clinical programs are available for internship and fellowship experiences that will align with individual interests.
  • Ability to effectively, appropriately, and accurately communicate both in written and oral form.
  • Ability, desire, and motivation to work independently and cooperatively with field supervisor, colleagues, and staff.
  • Flexibility of hours is needed (i.e., some evenings required)
  • Must abide with all SFS confidentiality policies.
  • Ability to relate to all members of the community regardless of race, age, gender, and cultural or ethnic background.
  • Willingness to work positively and cooperatively with supervisor, colleagues, and all other agency personnel.
  • Must demonstrate compassion and sensitivity and respect the privacy and special needs of clients.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.
  • Must maintain ethical and professional standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Internship:
  • Maintain a caseload size as agreed upon by the Field Instructor and Intern Supervisor.
  • Maintain a minimum of once a week contact with the Intern Supervisor.
  • Must attend mandatory program and agency meetings as deemed necessary by the Intern Supervisor.
  • Must maintain clinical records in accordance with SFS guidelines.
  • Must be able to receive as well as give appropriate feedback to clinicians, clients, staff, and all agency personnel.
  • Must be willing to be "on-call" in the event of a client emergency.
  • Must follow all requirements set for by funding source, including training hours, policies, and procedures.
  • Facilitates groups as needed.
  • Cooperates in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation, or other circumstances.
  • Assists in finding and directing clients in case of an emergency such as a fire or tornado.
  • Accept and emulate the mission of SFS.
  • Perform other reasonable related activities as assigned by the Intern Supervisor.

Fellowship:
  • Perform all duties associated with the job description in the chosen clinical program (outpatient, infant mental health, home based, school based).
  • Must possess a license to practice therapy in the State of Michigan.
  • Meet all employment requirements of SFS.

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Internship and fellowship applicants must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation. Upon graduation, fellows must have a valid clinical license through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to practice therapy.
