Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:     
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct, report and present research in his/her field of study under the supervision of a faculty mentor. This is a training position and is not expected to be a permanent position.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The successful candidate will design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures and, in some cases, design new protocols; summarize findings and publish results in research journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory and provide supervision and guidance to junior technicians, students, and researchers. conduct innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB.


Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, obtaining and maintaining all necessary federal and institutional permits required for work with select agents, actively support the PI in conducting experimental work, analyzing data, and assisting with report and manuscript writing for various research projects, performing animal studies and cell culture work, providing assistance to students when requested by the PI and training new laboratory members as needed as well as ensuring adherence to laboratory protocols and safety standards.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent in any field. Scientific research experience.


SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
