A POS (Point of Sale) Terminal job typically involves operating and managing point-of-sale systems in retail, hospitality, or service industries. Responsibilities may include processing transactions, handling payments, troubleshooting terminal issues, and providing customer support. Employees in this role ensure smooth sales operations, assist with cash or card payments, and maintain accurate transaction records. Some roles may also involve setting up and maintaining POS hardware and software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pos terminal position?

To excel in a POS (Point of Sale) Terminal Technician role, you need technical knowledge of POS hardware and software, troubleshooting skills, and preferably a background in electronics or IT. Familiarity with POS systems like NCR, Verifone, or Ingenico, as well as certifications such as CompTIA A+ or vendor-specific training, are highly valuable. Excellent customer service, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills help technicians resolve client issues efficiently. These competencies are essential to ensure quick installations, minimize downtime, and provide reliable support for businesses that depend on POS systems.

What are some typical challenges faced by pos terminal technicians on the job?

However, overcoming these challenges is rewarding and provides valuable experience that can lead to advanced technical or supervisory positions within the industry.

Gaining experience with networking, hardware troubleshooting, and familiarity with POS systems is important, and certifications such as CompTIA A+ can enhance job prospects. On-the-job training is common in this field, and technicians often work in retail, hospitality, or financial environments to install, maintain, and repair POS terminals.

QA Engineer – StoreTech, PAR/POS & Payments (Quick Serve business)
Job Title: Senior QA Engineer – Store Systems & POS Technologies
Location: Louisville, KY
Role Overview:
You will be responsible for end-to-end quality assurance across our client’s  corporate and franchise store operations. Your focus will be on validating store-level hardware, PAR/Brink POS terminal software, kitchen dispatch routing, order injection from third-party delivery service providers (DSPs), and secure credit card/cash handling in a high-volume restaurant environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Store POS & Lab Management: Configure and test physical store hardware rigs—including PAR/Brink POS terminals, receipt/kitchen printers, bump bars, cash drawers, and KDS screens mirroring actual store layouts.
  • Complex Menu & Product Matrix: Validate complex pizza builder configurations (e.g., Epic Stuffed Crust, half-and-half toppings, extra sauce, dipping sauce default pairings) and their translation from the register to KDS prep screens.
  • Delivery & Dispatch Systems: Test kitchen dispatch and delivery tracking integrations ( Driver App), including third-party delivery service provider (DSP) handoffs like DoorDash Drive.
  • In-Store Payments: Validate EMV chip, contactless NFC, and gift card transactions across terminal networks (e.g., Verifone/Ingenico), including store offline mode card queuing and daily till reconciliation.
  • Franchise Enterprise Sync: Test end-of-day (EOD) reporting syncs, store inventory updates, and enterprise menu management pushes across thousands of corporate and franchise locations.
Key Qualifications:
  • 3–5+ years of QA experience centered on QSR Store Systems, POS (PAR Brink, Aloha, Toast), and Payment Terminals.
  • Solid understanding of PCI-DSS compliance, EMV transaction processing, and store-level offline caching.
  • Hands-on experience with API testing (Postman, Charles Proxy) to validate store-to-cloud transactional payloads.
