What is a POS Support Analyst?

A POS Support Analyst is a professional who provides technical support and troubleshooting for Point of Sale (POS) systems used in retail, hospitality, or other businesses. Their responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, assisting users with system operations, and ensuring minimal downtime for transaction processing. POS Support Analysts often work with both end-users and vendors to implement updates, security patches, and new features, helping businesses maintain efficient and secure sales operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a POS Support Analyst?

To thrive as a POS Support Analyst, you need strong troubleshooting abilities, knowledge of point-of-sale systems, and a background in IT or computer science, often supported by relevant certifications like CompTIA A+ or similar. Familiarity with POS software, hardware peripherals, ticketing systems, and remote diagnostic tools is essential. Excellent problem-solving skills, customer service orientation, and clear communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills and qualities ensure prompt resolution of technical issues, minimize business downtime, and maintain smooth retail operations.

What are some common challenges faced by a POS Support Analyst, and how can they be addressed on the job?

As a POS Support Analyst, you may frequently encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues, managing time-sensitive incidents during peak business hours, and communicating effectively with non-technical users. Building a collaborative relationship with IT teams and retail management also helps ensure quick resolution of issues and smoother store operations.

Job description

Are you someone who enjoys solving complex business problems just as much as writing code?

We're looking for an Application Support Analyst who thrives on understanding how applications, databases, and business processes all connect. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, improving existing systems, working directly with users, and contributing to the development of internal business applications.

You'll join a collaborative IT team supporting a North American organization with dozens of custom applications, multiple websites, ERP integrations, and approximately 140 internal users across Canada and the United States. No two days are the same - you might spend one day investigating a SQL issue, another enhancing an internal application, and another helping a business user resolve a critical operational problem.

If you enjoy variety, ownership, and the opportunity to modernize business systems while continuing to develop your technical skills, this could be an excellent fit.

???? Who You Are

  • A problem solver who enjoys understanding how business applications work together
  • Comfortable balancing application development with user support and troubleshooting
  • Someone who enjoys working directly with business users to solve real operational challenges
  • Strong with SQL and curious about how data flows through integrated systems
  • Independent, resourceful, and able to take ownership of issues from start to finish
  • Service-oriented and patient when supporting users with varying levels of technical ability
  • Interested in learning new technologies while helping modernize existing applications

???? Work Type

  • Location: Markham, ON (Fully Onsite - 5 days a week in-office)
  • Vacancy Type: This role reflects an existing vacancy

Requirements

???? What You'll Do

  • Support and maintain a portfolio of custom business applications used across the organization
  • Troubleshoot application issues, bugs, and system integrations
  • Write, modify, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Investigate issues across multiple integrated systems, including ERP and custom web applications
  • Develop enhancements and improvements using C#/.NET and Visual Studio
  • Work directly with employees to understand technical issues and provide practical solutions
  • Support business users through phone, email, and remote support tools
  • Assist with application deployments, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve application issues
  • Provide occasional support for office hardware, printers, mobile devices, and sales technology when needed
  • Recommend improvements to existing applications, reporting tools, and business processes

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5+ years supporting business applications in a Microsoft environment
  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including writing and troubleshooting queries and stored procedures
  • Experience working with C#/.NET applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical users
  • Comfortable supporting multiple applications simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of issues through resolution
  • Strong customer service mindset and willingness to help wherever needed
  • Comfortable working in a role that combines application support, development, and business user interaction

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with REST APIs and system integrations
  • Experience with Angular or other modern web technologies
  • Crystal Reports experience
  • ERP application support experience
  • Experience supporting warehouse, sales, or distribution environments
  • Exposure to POS systems or label printing software

Benefits

  • Base Salary: $60,000–$70,000
  • Paid Time Off: Competitive vacation and personal days to maintain a healthy work-life balance
