Job description

Field Support Technician — Restaurant POS (San Antonio)

San Antonio POS, Inc. | San Antonio, TX | Full-Time Position

About Us

San Antonio POS, Inc. is an authorized Shift4 dealer serving restaurants and bars across the San Antonio area. We install, program, and support the Shift4 Dine point-of-sale platform for local operators — from single-location taquerias to multi-terminal bars and full-service kitchens. We're a small, hands-on team, and the person in this role has a direct impact on how our merchants run their business every day.

The Role

We're looking for a Field Service Technician to install, configure, and support POS systems at customer sites throughout the San Antonio metro. You'll be in restaurants and bars daily — running cable, staging terminals, programming menus, training staff, and troubleshooting issues that come up mid-service.

This is a great fit for someone who has spent years in restaurant management and is ready to move to the other side of the counter. If you've been the person who knew the POS better than anyone else on the floor, this job is built for you.

What You'll Do

  • Install and configure POS terminals, printers, cash drawers, KDS units, and card readers at merchant locations
  • Build and update menu programming in the Shift4 Dine back office
  • Train restaurant owners, managers, and staff on daily POS operation
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues on-site and by phone
  • Handle basic network setup and troubleshooting: routers, switches, cabling, Wi-Fi coverage for handhelds
  • Perform site surveys before installations and document configurations afterward
  • Provide responsive support to existing merchants, including occasional evening or weekend calls during service hours
  • Represent our company professionally in live restaurant environments where speed and discretion matter

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation is a must. This is a field position — you'll be driving between merchant sites across the San Antonio metro every day. Valid Texas driver's license, dependable vehicle, current insurance, and a clean driving record are required.
  • Career restaurant management experience strongly preferred — GM, AGM, or FOH/BOH manager background is exactly what we want. You understand how a restaurant actually operates during a rush.
  • Strong aptitude for technology, particularly point-of-sale systems. Prior hands-on experience with Shift4, Toast, Square, Aloha, Micros, or similar platforms is a major plus.
  • Basic restaurant networking knowledge is a plus: IP addressing, routers and switches, running and terminating cable, Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Employer will train employee candidates on our POS requirements.
  • Comfortable being the calm person in the room when a system goes down during dinner service
  • Clear communicator who can explain technology to non-technical staff without condescension
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, and get into tight spaces (under counters, above ceilings)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

Schedule

Flexible work hours. Restaurants don't run 9-to-5 and neither do we — installations often happen before open or after close, and support calls come in during service. In exchange, we're flexible with you. If you need a weekday morning for an appointment or want to shift your hours around a personal commitment, we work with that. We care that the merchants are taken care of, not that you're sitting at a desk between calls.

What You Don't Need

You don't need an IT degree or formal certifications. We'll train you on the Shift4 platform. What we can't teach is restaurant instinct and a good attitude with customers — bring those and we'll handle the rest.

Why Work Here

  • Flexible scheduling and real autonomy over your day
  • Small company where your work is visible and your input matters
  • [Benefits: PTO, health.

To Apply

Apply through ZipRecruiter with your resume. Tell us about a time you solved a technical problem under pressure in a restaurant — that's the story we want to hear.

San Antonio POS, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
