Description:
Hybrid 3X a week in Atlanta, GA; 10% Travel
Our client seeks a Systems Engineer with Retail & POS Technology experience to support store systems across software distribution, patch management, scripting, POS hardware and software, and production support. The role will operate on a small, collaborative team with a high degree of ownership. The engineer will design and validate technical solutions, manage Windows patching cycles, automate operational tasks, and troubleshoot integrations across POS, payment middleware, and central systems. Success requires proficiency with Windows environments, PowerShell or Python, SQL, and experience in distributed retail or hospitality settings.
This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.
Rate: $55.00 to $65.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage software distribution and Windows patching cycles for assigned store-system segments with validation and rollback plans.
  • Author and maintain PowerShell or Python scripts to automate data collection, health checks, and recurring tasks.
  • Monitor KPIs, recommend preventative measures, and escalate systemic issues to L3 or Lead.
  • Configure and deploy POS hardware and software, including terminals, scanners, printers, and payment processors, and troubleshoot integrations with central systems and gateways.
  • Investigate equipment failures, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend improvements.
  • Build prototypes for pilots, contribute to gold-image creation, and execute staging and configuration for rollouts.
  • Partner with offshore vendors and QA on test planning, regression testing, and production deployments.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and validate solutions.
  • Mentor L1 engineers on scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation standards.

Experience Requirements:
  • 3+ years of IT experience supporting POS and distributed retail/hospitality environments.
  • Strong experience troubleshooting production systems, integrations, and store technology.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows, patching, Event Viewer, and tools such as SCCM, Intune, BigFix, or Kaseya.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell and/or Python, plus working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with POS/payment technologies, including EMV, tokenization, PCI, kiosks, or mobile POS.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Education Requirements:
  • B.S. in engineering, computer science, networking, or related field, or equivalent experience.
