Job Description Summary
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provide technical resources and support functions to the maintenance department while managing the predictive, preventive, and precision maintenance of the plants fixed equipment. Ensures all maintenance activities adhere to regulatory and industry standards.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Coordinate with supervisors to ensure correct preventative maintenance is scheduled and performed when due.
-Provide technical resources and scoping for repairs as needed.
-Administration, control, and analysis of all data, records, and equipment histories to continually review and refine maintenance strategies, or frequencies.
-Perform internal and external visual API 510, 570 and 653 inspections.
-Responsible for root cause failure analysis on all fixed equipment mechanical failures. Determine what corrective action may be taken to prevent reoccurrence of failure while improving operating efficiency.
-Development of engineering solutions to acute and chronic equipment failures and other maintenance problems.
-Routinely contribute to the planning of realistic production capacity based on analysis of preventive maintenance needs, repair histories, inspection reports, etc.
-Analyze the operation of equipment to develop and optimize PM and repair schedules while minimizing downtime and costs.
-Specify/develop repair techniques and documentation for major repetitive tasks.
-Develop and maintain an ongoing review of cost versus effectiveness of PM and PdM programs.
-Assist in the identification of training needs to improve skill levels for the department.
-Ensure accurate, up to date spare parts lists are available for existing equipment; specify standardization of components used in repairs. Ensure spare parts lists are provided for all new installations and that components identified are consistent with established standards.
-Ensure up to date technical information, on all equipment, is available for the shop floor.
-Ensure maintenance department follows through on regulatory requirements including but not limited to state pressure vessel inspections.
-Routinely review equipment failures, and down time to determine the effectiveness of the maintenance strategies.
-Analyze MTTF, MTBF, and equipment uptime/downtime/utilization for constant improvement.
-Work with the project engineering group to help design for reliability, specify spare parts for new projects, and write PM strategies.
-Manage contractors to perform necessary repairs including obtaining quotes, writing POs, specifying and ordering parts, etc.
-Manage capital maintenance projects such as rebuilds and refurbishments
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
-Assist in department safety and housekeeping walk through.
-Assist with weekly departmental housekeeping tasks.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education required/ preferred:
B.S. in chemical, corrosion, materials or mechanical engineering.
API 510, 570, 653 certifications
Experience:
10+ years of plant engineering or maintenance/reliability engineering experience.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Experience in creating, maintaining, and updating multiple project documents in a complex project environment
  • Extensive knowledge in design and failure analysis of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pressure relief valves, etc.
  • Troubleshooting skills are a must, particularly of mechanical systems. Root cause failure analysis experience required.
  • NDE experience and/or certification highly preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze tank wall thickness measurements, liquid dye penetrant, radiography, and material test reports are highly preferred
  • Proven experience in leading teams, groups or efforts relating to processes and equipment
  • Knowledgeable with Process Safety Management (PSM), including process safety information, equipment design in accordance with RAGAGEP, Mechanical Integrity, and Management of Change, etc.
  • Experience working with enterprise CMMS software, preferably Maximo
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to perform alone and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Ability to read and create CAD drawings including mechanical, electrical, and Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and piping iso-metrics

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:
-Reports to Maintenance and Reliability Manager.
-Interacts with site management and staff, particularly with maintenance supervisor and technicians as well as all ranks in the operations department.
-Interacts with outside contractors, vendors and equipment manufacturers.
-No direct fiscal responsibilities other than cost saving projects.
-No routine supervisory responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
60% work in the plant; 40% office environment.
