Job description

Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Risk Manager to join our accounting and finance team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. The position serves as a leader in the Division of Business & Finance and is routinely a key advisor across academic and administrative units, including executive leadership, to ensure a proactive and coordinated approach to institutional risk.
The role requires the incumbent to possess a knowledge of insurance and risk management that leads initiatives, including the development of an enterprise risk management (ERM) program, and manages environmental health and safety compliance to protect the College's people, property, mission, and reputation. An ability to remain organized while prioritizing tasks is necessary for success in the position as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the institutional insurance portfolio, including but not limited to property, liability, workers' compensation, fidelity, and cyber coverage; serve as liaison with brokers and carriers; manage claims from reporting to resolution; and conduct renewal processes across various lines of coverage.
  • Manage and update the auto fleet insurance schedule along with vehicle registrations and titles.
  • Review contracts, policies, and college vendors to ensure appropriate coverage and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an ERM framework, including a college-wide risk assessment. Prepare related periodic reports for executive leadership and Board committees.
  • Advise departments on risk implications related to proposed new programs, initiatives, partnerships, and operational changes.
  • Participate in the Global Education Crisis Management team and provide input and training to the Risser Center for Global Education staff, along with faculty, students and administration related to study abroad travel.
  • Assist in insurance portfolio budget planning and financial analysis.
  • Maintain and enforce policies, including but not limited to the Motor Vehicle Safety Policy, the Volunteer Policy, and the Minors on Campus Policy. Collaborate with other departments, such as Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Campus Safety and Facilities on emergency management protocols and participate as a member of the Emergency Management Executive Team.
  • Serve as the institution's designated Environmental Health & Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and occupational safety regulations by overseeing programs and related inspections. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to: chemical hygiene, laboratory safety, hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste management, air quality, water quality, and storage tanks.
  • Oversee incident response to workplace safety matters, and fire/life-safety compliance. Collaborate with other departments such as Campus Safety and Facilities; recommend corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations by partnering with key departments and monitoring regulatory developments.
  • Support compliance with regulatory areas, including Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, and ADA.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, insurance, environmental health and safety, compliance, or related area.
